Lincoln Memorable

Since Glenn Beck's 8/28 Rally was such a huge success, does that mean he's now a greater man than Martin Luther King. Or just as great?

Colin Powell Just Can't Decide

Colin Powell — former U.S. Army general and former Secretary of State during the first George W. Bush term — is on the fence about which presidential candidate to support

"I'm looking at all three candidates," Powell said in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer for Thursday's "Good Morning America" on ABC. "I know them all very, very well. I consider myself a friend of each and every one of them. And I have not decided who I will vote for yet."

Yes, I can see his dilemma: they're all just so similar. Like, for example, Clinton and Obama want to leave Iraq yesterday and McCain wants to leave Iraq 10,000 years from yesterday. That's practically the same exact policy.

"I'll tell you what they're all going to face — whichever one of them becomes president on Jan. 21 of 2009 — they will face a military force, a United States military force, that cannot sustain, continue to sustain, 140,000 people deployed in Iraq, and the 20 (to) 25,000 people we have deployed in Afghanistan, and our other deployments," Powell said.

Oh, so Powell thinks we should pull out?

"(The president) will have to continue to draw down at some pace. None of them are going to have the flexibility of just saying, 'We're out of here, turn off the switch, turn off the lights, we're leaving,'" he said. "They will have a situation before them."

Oh, so he doesn't think we should pull out.

I'm beginning to see why he's on the fence about the candidates.

But let's get to the real issue here: unimportant but volatile racial issues. Powell's kind of a black guy. What does he think about how that other kinda black guy handled that black preacher guy business?

"I think that Sen. Obama handled the issue well… he didn't look the other way. He didn't wait for the, for the, you know, for the storm to go over. He went on television, and I thought, gave a very, very thoughtful, direct speech. And he didn't abandon the minister who brought him closer to his faith," Powell told Sawyer.

But, on the other hand, that opinion is subject to change if Obama doesn't choose him as a running mate.

  1. Why not turn out the lights & go home? We did it in Nam after 65,000 of our brave soldiers died. If the damn thing won't turn off then shoot it out…and bring our overstretched, exhausted from too many tours, PTSD'ed troops home to their families and country. Powell is talking just like a politician. He's talking out both sides of his mouth leaving his options open. He didn't even have the courage of his convictions before the Iraq war started. He got up infront of the UN & gave this administrations speech even though he knew in his heart, it was wrong!

  2. Dear Fellow Americans,

Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical "Challenges" in coming
    years and decades.

The Problems will be tough and solutions would not
    easy.

The key will the cool, calm, and collectedness of our
next President[ What I call Presidential Temperament'
The one remaining candidate who has consistently that
    Presidential Temperament is Senator Obama.

His message of change makes sense. We have to stop
doing business in Washington old ways. The new ways of
lifting each other up and stopping tearing each other
down will not held our Great grand Nation. The
Terrorists around the world[real] and inadvertently
assisted by some shortsighted media [Who are party to
this perpetuation of psychological terrorism of
    mis-information, dis-information, and duplicity], that
is what we do not need.

In order to send the message around the world that
America is get Senator Obama our next president. At
least on thing he has shown consistently is the
presidential Temperament. The Temperament of our next
president is very critical address internal and
internal challenges. Let us defeat real external
terrorists snd internal psychological terrorists once
    for all.

God Bless out Great grand Nation, its diverse people,
and Senator Obama. He is the ans her to our future
stability, security, safety, and regain our status in

  3. So Powell (Republican) has not chosen the 2 out of 3 Republicans in the race.

  4. Hooray for Obama! He doesn't do the conventional things to satisfy those in power (or who think they are in power). The status quo is doing everything they can to keep their power (and way of doing things). The Obama people (young, old, aflluent, blacks) are yearning for 21st Century change. I guess if I were "in charge" for years and had learned the rules I'd fight like hell too to keep things the same. Hooray for the little guy who goes against convention and wins — Ghandi, MLK, Bill Gates — Obama….
