The Daily Show on Fox News: The Meter is Running

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

John Oliver pays fair and honest homage to the greatest single American in history… Fox News.

Chapter One (in which the meter begins running)

Chapter Two (in which the meter continues running)

  1. I think violence drives us mad. Maybee if we condence the wicked and vengefull humans into a one cell prision, maybee we have to build to destroy

  2. Fox News is about as balanced as I am after trying to post three really good responses to this question, and being told to reenter my security code which when I finally page back my post is gone!

I don't know what a bot is, but I might be one now.

  3. Manic depressives who refuse to take their medication are about as chemically balanced, as Fox news is balanced fairly.

by Gina Judd April 14th at 10:45PM
  4. Fox news is just as balenced as the federal budget, or as balenced as larry craig trying to do a foot tap in the stall at Orlando International, or as balenced as a drunkin guy trying to piss on the side of a building. It always depends on your definition of balenced.

  5. Are you kidding me? The Daily Show is about as balanced as Fox News is. John Stewart goes on these poorly written and insanely overacted diatribes condemning anything republicans do, while he publicly bends over (not backwards) for Obama. He can't even give democrats fair and balanced treatment. So what room does he have to hate on Fox? Good day sir- I said good day!

  6. Gee, having just watched Jon do his best impersonation of Keith Olbermann of MSNBC's "Obama Fan Club," replete with Hillary bashing that would make Karl Rove swoon with happiness, I am loathe to say that Fox is any more or less biased……….

I realize the Daily Show isn't journalism per se; it's just that I expect equally satirical and even comedic observations on all of our presidential candidates. Isn't the beauty of satire that it can actually be provocative and insightful? Frankly, dumping on Hillary feels a bit old and trite to me.

  7. I'm from Holland and even I can tell Fox is as unbalanced as the situation in Iraq is…

  8. I have enjoyed watching the Daily Show for many years. However, for the past 2 months or so, the show has become less enjoyable and less funny. I plan to vote for Barack Obama in the upcoming Presidential election. Having said that, I do not enjoy watching Jon Stewart make excuses for or minimizing Obama's every mistake or instance of bad judgment. Barack Obama is not an infallible person, and it is tiring to hear people speak about him as such. The Daily Show's approach has become formulaic at this point. Point out something that Obama has said or done that is, at the least, questionable, make an excuse for it, turn it into a positive, deflect attention away from it, and then bash Hillary Clinton. ("Today, Barack Obama spoke to us like adults about race" does not address his minimally poor judgment of having spent 20+ years attending a church with a preacher who speaks so hatefully and divisively. Nor does it address the highly unlikely claim that Obama had no knowledge of the preacher's position on certain issues, especially since this same preacher performed Obama's wedding ceremony, baptized his children, and inspired the name of one of Obama's books). I'm not saying this issue should be blown out of proportion to change people's minds about voting for him. I'm just saying that there should be a legitimate acknowledgment of how shocking that new information was. As someone who is fond of Barack Obama and finds him extremely inspiring with his message of uniting this country, I was shocked to find out that he had any association with this church and this preacher. (Not to mention the fact that if Hillary Clinton or John McCain ever so much as asked for directions in a similar type of church they would have to step out of the Presidential race immediately). If Obama's attempt to bowl was insignificant and unimportant, I think the same could be said for Hillary drinking a shot of whiskey in a bar with some regular voters. They are both very much removed from the "common man" and his circumstances and are pandering to people they clearly have little to no connection with. We are talking about 2 candidates who attended top universities (as did their spouses) and who live in multimillion dollar homes in beautiful neighborhoods. Both have published a number of books and earn a significant income way above what the average American earns. Let's go back to the satirical, witty, intelligent humor that I've always loved about the Daily Show. This one-sided, agenda-ridden attempt to tell us all how to interpret the candidates' every move (Obama's always good, Hillary's always bad) is getting old and tired. It's the same type of formula used on channels like Fox News and it is anything but fair and balanced.

  9. Lately Fox sounds better than the Daily Show. After somewhat fair and balanced jokes on the Daily Show this season, Jon revealed his true colors last night.

I guess New Yorkers and Californians (I live in CA) are just TONE DEAF to how the rest of the country heard Obama's condescending remarks. It goes beyond bitter. He basically said they're so stupid they just don't get how great he is or they'd be among those who swoon for him.

The last time a Democrat won the WH was an elitist Jon should like–a Rhodes scholar who CONNECTED WITH THE PEOPLE. Remember Bill Clinton, a real Bubba who got elected TWICE? Oh no, let's nominate another Dukakis in the tank, Gore rolling his eyes or Kerry the windsurfer….that way we can LOSE another election. I am in the supposed Obama demographic: chardonnay-drinking, latte-sipping, college grad (sorry, no Volvo) who will vote for Hillary, the candidate who can BEAT John McCain and make a great President.

  10. Oh save it. Have you ever visited PA? Lived in the area Obama made his tactless but truthful remarks about? I have and he did nailed it, though ungracefully.

The Daily Show's coverage of this latest media feeding frenzy over the "guns and religion" comment is not meant to minimize the damage to Obama but to show what the media is doing to create a new controversial sound bite for them to repeat and analyze until the PA primaries are over. (Or have you forgotten that a sound bite and pundit analysis can make or break a candidacy?) As for Hillary, she once again was being a hypocrite with her latest offensive and The Daily Show called her out on it. If you can't understand or accept this, then you're better off watching Fox.

Also Oliver's "Lady Liberty" stunt at News Corp. head quarters did not cross the line. They came in, got their coverage, and then left. So what if the bugged a few rent-a-cops?
