Jon Stewart: Barack Obama Makes Elitism the New Liberalism

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Jon takes a crack at the fallout of Barack's recent comments about Western Pennsylvanians:

Is elitism a problem for you? It's not like Americans have ever held a superiority complex.

  1. i think you all need to get the hell of jon, stephen, and all the Indecision2008 team's collective backs already — THEY ARE NOT BIASED, THIS IS NOT ABOUT SIDES, IT'S ABOUT EQUAL-OPPORTUNITY COMEDY.
i come here for a good satire, a good laugh, and a break from the seriousness of the whole BS going on out there… until i read the comments, of course, where someone is ALWAYS accusing jon of taking sides. my god, people, go complain to fox news. stop attacking the entertainers, go after the pundits!

  2. those of you who are supporting Jon by simply retyping his sound bytes are my main piece of evidence about why his diehard fans are idiots- you cannot think for yourselves. he clearly bashes Hillary, while bending over for Obama!

  3. Thank you so much John Stewart for being the one TV show I can still count on to cut through the rhetoric, and spin, and BS. If people read the full transcript of what Obama said they would notice that he did not say it in any hateful or condescending way. In fact a book was published about this very same issue some time ago "The Affluent Society" by Harvard economist and sociologist John Kenneth Galbraith. He talks about how when people feel like they are being economically "shafted" and feel helpless in the face of it, then they focus their attentions more and more on the things that matter more to them than economic success. Those things typically being the practices and values that they were raised on especially as a child, because as a child they felt safe, and secure, and comforted. Rather than put their faith in politicians (because that will just make them bitter when they are let down) they put their faith in the things they know they can count on.

Obama is not running for sociologist-and-chief, he's running for commander-and-chief. According to today's most recent gallup tracking poll Obama's base among well-educated Americans has increased since his remarks, 83% of Americans with a post graduate degree support Barack Obama over Hillary. While 53% of Americans with a high school degree or less support Hillary over Obama. NOw…this may seem "elitist" perhaps… but don't you think that the smartest, best educated people in our country would support Obama so overwhelmingly for a reason? Mabye more attention should be paid as to why…WHY the less educated people are offended by his remarks, and the more educated defend Obama for them.

  4. for the record… i'm a hillary supporter -_-

but i'm not going to be angry with what jon said because, well, it was funny. when he made fun of obama, you know what? that was funny, too.

that's why his show is on COMEDY central, not CNN.

    -_-

  6. Jon had fun making fun of the bitter thing because it is stupid.

Hey, but I’m not bitter I am going to have a glass of red wine, whereby I will tightly cling to my glass, clean my automatic, have a chat with God, and bitch about all the issues the MSM pundits pushed my way today, which having nothing to do with why we’re in this mess and escape this frickin nightmare.

  7. Give me a fracking break Jon!
The guy is dirty and so is Clinton. I have proved beyond doubt already, catch it at my website and be terrified of the truth I have found, it is that bad. I am winning the information battle, they have already lost.
Millions upon millions more know the truth than did just a few months ago months ago.
For 10 months I have been telling the truth without one successful challenge.

Mr Black was right the other night, neither of these candidates will get us through this, so called, matrix.
Gore needs to be pushed as a candidate, he is the only one with a chance to break this hold, the Elitists as people call them. He is the only one with the power to meet them toe to toe. I strongly believe he would have no choice but to live up to his own hype or we the people will crucify him, no pun intended, if he performs one iota below his own claimed and by association, beliefs.
We the people would be able to hold this over his head, I think this could be a real good tool to use. I think it can be done, the fixing of this world and final freedom for all sentient creatures.
I personally like Al Gore. he is the only Elitist to escape the depravity and perversion that is Washington, See the videos by David Icke, he has it right you know. Too much historical backup for his claims to be dismissed.
Credo Mutwa and Arizona Wilder will change your life forever with the truth.
Let me know what you think.

Tim Winckler for THIS GEEKS REVOLT

  8. First all people that have run for President in recent history could be considered elitist. Every one of them graduated from Ivy League schools. Hell, even Bush graduated from Harvard. Bush was the president that small town people thought they could have a beer with and look what he has done to the country.

  9. Kyle, wow. The fact that you believe what you said is shocking and yet completely demonstrative of why people are angry in the first place. Just because Obama did not make his remarks in a "hateful and condescending way" (what does that even refer to, his tone?) does not make them any less condescending. Whatever you think he meant, the words he USED tell a different story. YES, there ARE people like the ones he mentioned. YES, people are bitter. The problem is that Obama framed that bitterness in such a way that it seems like Small Town Americans are nothing but a bunch of gun-toting religious zealots. THEN he preached it behind closed doors to a wealthy group of individuals who could not possibly have an authentic context or understanding of small town life. PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE BEING TALKED DOWN TO, APOLOGIZED FOR, OR EXPLAINED. They can usually do a fair job of that themselves. Obama needs to eschew talk of "motivations" and concentrate on SOLUTIONS.

FYI- "Small Town" does not equal "uneducated" and plenty of people with college degrees (myself included) can see that Obama's remarks were inappropriate at best. I am sorry I can't say any more than that but your remarks make me absolutely crazy.

  10. Obama is a joke! He lacks any credible experience, but still manages to talk of "change" without ever setting a clear path for doing so. He has been a senator less time than McCain had been held as a POW! lol
