Jon Stewart: Barack Obama Makes Elitism the New Liberalism
Jon takes a crack at the fallout of Barack's recent comments about Western Pennsylvanians:
Is elitism a problem for you? It's not like Americans have ever held a superiority complex.
PERMALINK:

Something else just occurred to me that might be particularly appropriate for this thread. When I was in basic training, one of the final pieces of the training was an exercise where we had to low-crawl under live M-60 fire while demo-charges went off in blast pits all around us. One of the last things the Drill Sergeant yelled to us, under the din of automatic weapons fire, was, "Ain't no atheists in foxholes, privates! Now get your -expletive- over that wall!" I personally never had the experience of actually being in a foxhole or taking actual enemy fire (I ETS-ed in 2001), but that wasn't the last time I ever heard that sentiment expressed. Is it patronizing or elitist to say that soldiers cling to religion when their lives are threatened? Is it that you have to have a combat infantry badge on your chest and an airboirne tab on your shoulder to not be an elitist? What makes that statement coming from Obama less true or somehow more derisive than the same sentiment coming from my former drill sergeant?
If all this is true, which I believe it to be, then the presidency is already predetermined. The secrecy runs deeper and is more disgusting than most can fathom. People need to know the truth! God bless you all.
If this is all true, which I'm pretty sure it is, voting is useless. The secrecy runs deeper and is more disgusting than most could fathom. YOU deserve to know the truth!
God bless.

Sorry, I tried putting this at HTML, but realized after posting, that it did not work. Check it out, interesting indeed.
Elitist as snobbish, looking at others with contempt and a feeling of superiority? No this speech from Obama was not denigrating those Pennsylvania folks, he was simply stating their socio-economic situation and considering how that would understandably make them diffident of outsiders and circle their waggons on certain things. He spoke in detail about it in a charlie rose interview and it really is sympathy rather than elitistic comtempt: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4158287209839943055&q=barack+charlie+rose&total=116&start=0&num=10&so=1&type=search&plindex=2&hl=en .
You are looking for elitistic: search no further than Hillary's "I am a simple girl" poses, when her campaign is over she should audition for the next season of "The Simple Life" sequel.
to Cristina:
So you think Hillary has better solutions planned up, really think she feels for lower class and lower middle class folks. I'd be more upset by a billionaire (that probably spends my yearly salary in haircuts and make up) pretending to be just like me, than by somebody describing my situation as a difficult one. Before you get too mad at him how about listening to the same story (but with more time) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4158287209839943055&q=barack+charlie+rose&total=116&start=0&num=10&so=1&type=search&plindex=2&hl=en
Barack Obama is extremely "in touch" with the hearts and minds of many Americans today. Obama is right! Many Americans are sick and tired and frustrated and "bitter" about the lies, the empty promises, the unaccountability of the administration for bringing about so many deaths in Iraq, the tearing down of our constitutional rights, the loss of their jobs to overseas companies, the list goes on and on. He knows people are bitter about being let down over and over and again. Obama is offering hope for real change! I do hope Jon Stewart has him on his show before the Pennsylvania elections as he had Hillary on his show before the Ohio elections.
John, bravo on your comment. I couldn't agree with you more. I have one question though that nobody really seems to be taking into account. I find it a little interesting that Hillary Clinton, of anyone, would label someone an "Elitest" considering her background, friends, and social life. Take for example her fundraisers, the people who throw them and attend them. In fact, a large majority of her campaign money comes from the Democratic Party's most elite. However, that said, I don't believe that being elite is necessarily a bad thing either. As John Stewart pointed out, I want the best man/woman for the job. I want them to be smarter, experienced, open-minded, etc than me and, quite honestly, most Americans. I think in all honesty this "Bitter-gate" has been taken to the worst extreme ever. This is getting more press and attention than the real issues. Why? We can thank the sensationalized News Media. In fact, I called CNN out on this in some blogs and told them "Shame on you" CNN for taking the sensational route of news and not the real news. I have been banned from posting there. LOL!!!! Whatever, just goes to show that CNN, FOX and the like are all just the same…..never reporting the news, just the sensational BS. Funny, if you can listen between the lines of the Daily Show and Colbert report, you actually tend to get more news from them than the Cable News Networks……Plus you get some really good political satire. Thank you Comedy Central.
I actually think that you're missing the most essential marker of an elitist, namely their hair. Looking at the hair factor will always flush out an elitist. Based on hair –Jack Kennedy an elitist, Richard Nixon, not. Barry Goldwater and elitist, LBJ, not. Al Gore and elitist, Dick Cheney, not. Bill & Hillary Clinton, elitists, Barack Obama and John McCain, not. Its so simple. Although Ronald Reagan falls through the cracks as he has the hair of an actual elitist but only played one in the movies.
You know, I would like to know who specifically was in the closed fund-raiser that Obama was "explaining" small town America to? Was it a bunch of wealthy foreign investors? Investors looking to buy influence in American politics?
