Hillary Clinton Said "Screw 'Em" Once, Nation Prepares to Freak the Eff Out

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

In his book, "The Truth of Power: Intellectual Affairs in the Clinton White House" author Benjamin Barber claims that he witnessed Hillary Clinton saying something that runs in counter-distinction to her current hard-drinkin', quick-shootin', blue-collar-lovin' persona

In January 1995, as the Clintons were licking their wounds from the 1994 congressional elections, a debate emerged at a retreat at Camp David. Should the administration make overtures to working class white southerners who had all but forsaken the Democratic Party? The then-first lady took a less than inclusive approach.

"Screw 'em," she told her husband. "You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them."

First of all, this anecdote comes from a book, so it's probably not true.

Second of all, it's been taken completely out of context. By "screw 'em," she probably meant "make love to 'em." Or "insert or fasten through the act of turning 'em."

Third of all, she wasn't talking about white people. She was talking about southern white people. And everybody knows they can go screw themselves.

Except for the ones in Florida.

  1. Belly lol —
Clearly she meant to insert or fasten through the act of turning 'em. What else?

  2. BTW, way to choose an intentionally bad picture of Hillary Clinton. You must be an Obama supporter.

  3. Most likely this claim is a load of unsubstantiated crap, just like the claim that Clinton also disavowed her anti-NAFTA statements to Canada as did Obama. Let us get our facts straight here… This is not a direct quote. The book in question was written in 2001, six years after the comments were supposedly made, and in a book intended to portray the Clintons as intellectual snobs. How can you pretend to trust such a source? Find a recording, find something in her own handwriting, find a single source that also claimed to have heard the statement, and find one who mentioned it way back in 1995 when it was supposedly said. Otherwise this is just another desperate rumor by Obama supporters, which will most likely turn out to be wholly false and will, if anything, prove that Hillary Clinton has been a victim of media bias. Anyways, it doesn’t help Obama at all to make this comparison, in fact it is as if the Obama supporters were claimining, “Hey, our candidate may be an out-of-touch elitist, but so is she.” Is that really the message that they want to put out there?

  4. She misspoke; there was sniper fire all around them; so she said "screw 'em," so what, she's only human. Hey, she wants to take care of these little people so, "screw 'em" is just like a verbal shot of Crown Royal, y'know? Anyway she was realy talking about Jesse Jackson, she meant "screw 'im," which doesn't mean she's racist, just that, y'know, Jesse Jackson is no MLK; in fact MLK was no MLK, Lyndon Johnson was. So "screw 'im," and "screw 'em all." "Screw everybody" – the motto on the emblem of the Clinton clan.

  5. Eli – Wow, so defensive…lighten up… this is a Comedy Central site after all. Re: 'an intentionally bad picture of Hillary'…uh… is there such a thing as an intentionally good picture of her? Maybe after one of her weekly botox injections; definitely not with a hangover from her-shot-and-a-shooter. Did you see her the next day? Ouch. Anyway, I think the picture is pretty dead-on…she looks made-up to the tee – perfect eyebrow waxing, good lipstick, not a hair out of place. She can't help it if she looks like a b!tch.

  6. Eli, at the risk of getting too factual on a comedy site, that book was written by an adviser to President Clinton, and current Hillary Clinton supporter and donor, Ben Barber. He has already confirmed the quote. The book was most definitely NOT written as a hit piece, and in fact was meant to explore the thinking behind the Clinton administration and why certain decisions were made.

This whole thing would have been a complete non-issue, if Hillary hadn't spent the past 5 days acting like she was completely offended that Obama's comment had "offended" voters. She's completely disingenuous, and this only highlights that with a HUGH neon sign.

  7. HUGH = HUGE.

Ugghh. You get what I was say, I hope. =)

  8. Her comment seems a tad bit elitist. Perhaps she was bitter.

  9. Way to go Anne (April 16th commenter)……not all Southerners are Bush supporters and you really do an injustice to yourself with such a stereotypical borderline racist type comment. It is Democrats like you that give the party a horrible name….with pillars such as diversity, tolerance, the need to be progressive holding up the party, comments like your just do not fit in, do they?

  10. As a country, we are totally fucked due to the Bush administration. And we'll be fucked for a long time to come.

A vote for Hillary Clinton would be adding fuel to the fire. This farce that we call the current United States government must be obliterated. Washington needs to be changed and we've known this since JFK was assassinated.

    Get a clue, America.
