Jon Stewart: Don't Hate the Preacher, Hate the Game

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Most media outlets have done a bang-up job with cherry-picking Rev. Jeremiah Wright's sound bites for maximum out-of-context value. However controversial you find his messages, you can't deny the man's got what we call in the public speaking biz ka-raz-ma.

What's your favorite Rev. Wright bit? We like the JFK/Porky Pig.

  1. Rev Wright is a megalomaniac and a racist. If McCain's pastor was a member of the KKK people would crucify him for it. Rev Wright is one reason that racism still exists in this country.

  2. I was pretty pissed for a while at Obama. I didn't like the way he immediately trashed a white Don Imus and then took years to criticize his loony preacher for far worse statements but then I saw Antonin Scalia on 60 Minutes and I was reminded how desperately America needs a democratic president. Scalia said torture wasn't a crime because it's not punishment, the devil himself could not split a hair so finely. So, do I think Re.Wright is harming Obama's campaign? Absoilutely ? In the end will it matter to me? Not at all, I'll vote for whoever get's the Dem nomination because we cannot afford four more years of Bush proxy agents.
Dems, united there is no way we can lose this November!!!!

  3. Media needs these antics because they can't figure out how to package actual news so people really want to see it. Everything is in the presentation, not in the content.

The more outrageous things get the more the media loves it. After all, American news is not about news anyway, it is about entertainment.

Both sadly and happily, Jon Sterward offers better news AND finds a way to make it fun to watch. "main stream" media just tries to entertain us with madness and mayhem with no hint of humor so they can label it as news.

  6. I posted a comment, was told to reenter the security code. What happened to my comment?

  7. This is really fun. Obama playing the straight man "I never heard these hatefull remarks in twenty years" and Wright replying "my man Obama is playing his role as a politician, ha, ha, ha, blink nod"

Yea, us non-clapper whities get it oh too well. Obama is a liar who will say anything to get elected. Really?

  8. Wilhelmina, thanks for the comments. It really helped put Obama in sharper focus and explain much of the real man and his views.

  9. There are African Americans who are free in heart and soul. The Dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. is not a dream. It is a reality and they know the vast majority of Americans accepted the teachings of MLK, Jr. and live it. Several generations of Americans have been raised on the ideas MLK, Jr. presented and it has spread throughout society to help women, gays and other ethnic minorities. Then there are African Americans who were raised to believe no matter what happens in their life, good or bad, it is always about the color of their skin. If they don't get the job it's because they are black. If they get the job it's because they are black. Every success and failure cannot be attributed to anything but color. They are the people whose mindset have not caught up with popular American culture. Rev. Wright doesn't live in reality and because there are so many stuck in his beliefs. He will make a tidy sum for himself and continue to be popular. His message is powerful, if not antiquated.

  10. This is a resubmission. I hope this doesn't get lost, like my previous comment.
Jon, this situation is not about Obama's pastor, it is about Obama's veracity and judgement, both of which rate a 0. Twenty years ago, Obama joined the Trinity Church, apparently to be a black activist. After 18 years, coincidently, just before announcing his candidacy to run for President, Obama declared that he "vehemently disagreed" with the pastor's words. This did not, however, keep him from allowing his 2 girls to attend the church to hear the damning of America, the damning of Israel, and remarks against the Jews. When he made his declaration to run, he quietly disinvited the pastor from attending. Obama was now the "all-American-boy". When the news of the Rev. hit the media, Obama [ despite having previously said that he disagreed with the words] stated that he had never heard Wright use those words. He amended that to having heard them a "few times", in 20 years? He said that he stayed with the church because Wright was like an uncle to him.Apparently, falling in the polls, Obama changed his tune and image again and is now saying that the pastor's words [ which he has heard all these years ] are now "divisive", the pastor is no longer like an uncle, is more a pariah, and Obama has turned traitor in denouncing him.
Obama has 79 "bundlers". These are companies which bypass their lobbyists, ask their execs and employees to donate $2300 each, which is then "bundled" and given to Obama while they tell him what he can do to help them. General Dynamics, a bundler, recently was the beneficiary of an Obama earmark. He has only 78 bundlers to pay back. Who needs lobbyists?
Obama told Canada [ in a secret meeting, a la Bush ] that he does not have to do as he said in his campaign speeches on NAFTA because it was a campaign "plan", not a promise and does not have to be kept. His ex-advisor, Samantha Power, told the same story to the British press on the subject of Iraq. Is his "promise" to support Israel a "plan" which he does not have to honor?
Obama is always telling the voters what he will do for them. In 12 years as an office holder, 8 years in Illinois, 4 years in Congress, He has not established a record in doing for his constituents. He waffles because he is too concerned with his image, that he might alienate someone. He became the head of a major Senatorial committee last July. He has yet to call a meeting for it. More nothing! Why, if he has not done anything for the people in these 12 years, why do people expect that he will suddenly become active and do something as President?
Obama is like a chameleon. He changes himself to suit what people
are looking for. The problem is that he changes so much that he forgets who he truly is and never accomplishes anything!
Proof is available on all of my statements……
