John Edwards to Endorse Barack Obama

It's official. John Edwards is endorsing Barack Obama…
The Obama campaign confirms Edwards will endorse Obama at a campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan Wednesday. The event was originally scheduled to start at 7pmET, but was moved up to 6:20pmET, presumably to have the announcement make the evening news.
Because, what the hell? It doesn't matter now anyway.
All the useless three minute long speculation can be seen after the jump.
Daily Kos is reporting that Ben Smith is reporting that the Obama campaign will be announcing something really big in less than two hours…
The Obama campaign just moved its evening event up to 6:30 for what reporters are being told is a big endorsement.
Time's The Page has similar information, but also includes a picture of Obama standing next to John Edwards, who has still yet to endorse a candidate.
Except the information was slightly less similar a few minutes ago when The Page's page looked like this and included this extra sentence…
Radio silence from six senior Obama officials when asked directly by The Page: "Is John Edwards endorsing Barack Obama today?"
One DKos commenter isn't believing that hype…
My source (legit) says it's NOT Edwards… This is a well-known journalist with a blog you all know, he says he thinks Halperin's wrong.
And this prognosticating comment seems highly unlikely, but would make all of our heads collectively explode…
Hillary! I've said before that the widespread announcement that Obama can declare victory on May 20 was designed to give Hillary a window in which to have a victory in West Virginia and then bow out. Better to leave that way than to be unceremoniously declared out on May 20th.
Since people are just throwing out predictions irrespective of likelihood, I'm gonna go ahead and make this prediction.
I can feel it in my bones.

So it's ok to make fun of smart people being stupid but it's not ok to make fun of stupid people being being stupid. Or is a poor/rich thing?
Sing it with me now…. Ebony… and Ivory…

If AA were racist BILL CLINTON WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT!!!!!
FOR YEARS THE HAVE SUPPORTED DEMOCRATS (all white)
and the have never supported an AA candidate other wise AL SHARPTON would have been a nominee!!
They are "NOT AGAINST" her because of her race, they are "proud" of Obama FOR TRYING TO TRANCEND RACE!! (At the start they were wondering if he was black enough)
Seeing Obama reach out to Americans- and the win in IOWA (mainly white made AA believe in his VISION!! of the country coming together and RACE DID NOT MATTER!!)
PEOPLE WHO DO NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA ARE NOT RACISTS!!
BUT LET’S NOT LIE, ITS ONE THING TO SUPPORT HILLARY BECAUSE YOU BELIEVE IN HER (I can respect)
BUT IT’S WRONG TO SIMPLY VOTE HILLARY JUST BECAUSE YOU DO NOT WANT AN AA PRESIDENT!!
THAT ONLY MEANS YOU DO NOT "REALLY" SUPPORT HILLARY BUT PREDJUDICE "AGAINST" OBAMA FOR HIS RACE!!
Oh, and by the way, I am from West Virginia, and believe it or not, I have a PhD, and I'm not poor or a racist. Imagine that!
I was deeply offended by The Daily Show's despicable reliance on stereotypes of Appalachian people to "explain" why Clinton's margin of victory in WV was so wide. While I do not deny that racism played a factor (as it has in other states like Ohio, PA and Indiana) in this win, I question why racism hasn't been mentioned as a factor in Clinton's win in other states.
Jon's use of a moonshine jug, fake Appalachian accent, and the horror of all horrors the dueling banjos theme from Deliverance was simply ignorant and mean. Where did you get those clips of white racist West Virginians? Did your staff go into the homes of the despised working class and pose those baiting questions to them?
Democrats are worried about the party unifying after the democratic nomination process is complete. This show (and I have been a fan for many years) demonstrates a complete blind spot among liberal democrats who will never be able to speak to the working -class in the country when your entire approach to this population is to denigrate, scapegoat, and use as the victim of tired old stereotypical jokes.
So, all you smug, New York liberal intellectuals (and by the way, I am a professor at a small liberal arts college in New York) can gives yourselves a big pat on your snarky backs when the deplorable John McCain becomes president in the Fall.
What was that you were drinking last night? Whiskey or…KOOLAID??? You make fun of Hillary's white support – why not give equal time to Obama's 90% black vote? Huh? Are you being fair and balanced? Just like Fox news?
Good on Obama not only to get the delegates and moral support but the only real alternative in my opinion to Hillary Clinton as VP nominee, as I wrote in an answer under my former article here on Avisen.dk: "Tillykke Obama – nu skal du slå McCain".
Being a VP candidate before and with a history of losing to none other than George W. Bush I did not think Edwards would be interested, but he is the one that I'm certain will appeal second-best to the white working class and lower middle class.
The big problem is how this will sit with the feminists, Hispanics and diehard Hillary supporters who are justly angry right now about the long negative campaign and media coverage vilifying her.
However, Hillary could still be given her pick between the post as Secretary of the Treasury as the first woman or Secretary of State together with some kind of overall coordination of policies pertaining to the area she chooses.
Come November when dust and emotions have settled down a bit more and the Democrats are fighting a common enemy this MAY be enough.

CP
Sorry, the article was "Is Hillary Reaching Out to Obama?"
And I don't believe – and hope not – that Hillary diehards will go as far as to vote for McCain, not in huge droves anyway. The real enemy there is the couch …
But when it comes the groups in the electorate that she appeals better to and that are not diehard Democrats it's another matter as well as danger.
Let's hope for the best, for the sake of the USA and the world.

CP
I used to like Edwards and think he would be a good VP for Hillary. Now, I think he is a turncoat nasty oportunist!
Redmountain, I feel your pain. As an Indiana resident I know the sting that satire aimed at one's home state can bring.
Hoosiers are often lumped in with Kentuckians as buggery fiends. I can assure people this deplorable act is in decline here in Indiana. (Kentucky as far as I know is still pretty keen on it).
We recognize that stereotypes have at their heart at least a small kernel of truth. Rather than lash out at people who make easy sport of such things we have taken a proactive stance. For instance we have, for many years now, featured a "Good Touch – Bad Touch Petting Zoo" at our State Fair.
I look forward to the day when West Virginians, Hoosiers and Kentuckians join together… because together… I believe that our great states could do great things.
Perhaps one day those smarty-pantsed New Yorkers will gaze up at the sky and marvel at our ingenuity as our respective state flags fly outside a gleaming double-wide space station on the moon. (Sure there'll be a moon buggy out front that's up on blocks but some day when Commander Skeeter finally gets around to bringing us the right part… we will get that thing running!)
