Can We All Use the Phrase "Yes We Can"? Yes We Can!
So, we were hanging out here at Indecision HQ, laughing about the GOP's new stolen slogan "Change You Deserve," when one of us stumbled across a Daily Show clip from 2004 that featured this image…
…and we thought to ourselves with our brains: "Yes, we can!" Where have we heard that phrase before? Was that really George W. Bush's campaign slogan in 2004?
Flummoxed, we decided to Google ourselves around the internet for a while and see what we found.
See what we discovered after the jump.
We discovered that while Bush never used "Yes, We Can!" as an actual campaign slogan, he did tool around the country on a "Yes, America Can" bus tour…

That's kind of interesting, but "Yes, America Can" isn't exactly "Yes, We Can." And we knew we'd heard that exact phrasing somewhere before.
Maybe something from my childhood growing up outside of Philadelphia? Can that possibly be what I'm thinking of?

Former Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Dave Cash well remembers how he came up with "Yes We Can," the battle cry that launched the beleaguered franchise on the best run in its history.
It was 1974, spring training in Clearwater, Fla., Cash recalls from his home in Odessa, Fla., and he was at the Derby Lane dog track with some of his teammates' money. "When I got back to the clubhouse one of the guys asked, 'How'd we do?' And I said, 'Yes we can,' and threw the money in the air."
Then, on May 25, after the Phils swept a double header with the Montreal Expos, Cash shouted out, "Yes we can." Sportswriters picked it up, and the rest is history.
That still didn't seem right. In the end, we couldn't remember where we'd heard the phrase "Yes We Can."
But, that gives me an idea. You know what would be a great slogan for Barack Obama?
Change You Deserve! I don't think anyone's used that yet, have they?

Clearly someone in Bush's campaign did the research. So why couldn't the RNC do the same?? OOOOOOH, that's right-they no longer have Karl the Brain.
