The Fate of Florida and Michigan Stands in the Balance

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

On Saturday, the Democrat Party will hold a rules and bylaws committee meeting to discuss seating delegates from Florida and Michigan, which should give Hillary Clinton what she's been asking for all this long while.

Kind of

* The most likely outcome is that the rules committee will reinstate 50% of the Florida and Michigan delegates. According to a memo, party lawyers don't believe they have the authority to do any more than that.

* The twist, as First Read notes, are the "uncommitted" delegates from Michigan's primary. "If the Rules committee decides to accept the January primary results then it's not clear, via the DNC charter, that it's within the party's rules to assign uncommitted delegates to Obama."

* Although she will probably have succeeded in changing the "magic number" for the nomination, Sen. Hillary Clinton will still likely be disappointed by the committee's decision. The math doesn't work for her now and won't work for her after Saturday either.

The next step, obviously, for the Clinton campaign will be taking on math.

Conspiring, sexist math.

  1. Seems like Hillary is getting a lot of you all hot and bothered about this whole campaign thing. And she didn't even have to pull a Sharon Stone. Got your knickers in a note though.

  2. If Hillary was so concerned about Florida and Michigan, why did she agree not to campaign there?

What qualifications for president does Obama lack? Personally, I think he's displayed a level of intelligence, dignity, and leadership ability that no candidate of the Bush/Clinton era could ever hope to match.

As for Hillary knowing what to do on day one, that's a bit hard to swallow since she's never known what to do before. She failed as first lady with her health care package. She failed as a Senator when she voted to use force in Iraq. Now, she has failed as a presidential candidate. Accept that.

  3. JaniceinMichigan- You were misguided in a situation that did not exude the American Voting Process. It is not fair. Next time stick to your ideals of what you believe to be the a fair and due process. Don't let someone else decide or vote for you. You have a right, use it.

What was mentioned previously, I think Obama should do something about this situations to correct it. Hillary is the True Patriot in this situation.

  4. If Obama was a true American Patriot that believed in Democracy he would insist on counting Florida and Michigan, even if he loses them. Come on Obama! Stand up for the American Way! Include ALL of the American People in this Democratic Race!

  5. Florida and Michigan are still part of the USA and their votes deserve to be counted. Obama is not qualified to be a president nor does he really seem to be a patriotic person. Hilliary is a wonderful person with a lot of determination and would know what to do on Day ONE. Thank you, Hilliary Clinton, for standing for what you believe in and God Bless America! Kathy

  6. It's all the fault of Florida's and Michigan's DNC chairpeople. And further exacerbated by Howard Dean's foot-dragging on wft to do about it. Had he grown some balls and made a quick decision without a team of lawyers(he's the fuckin head of the DNC for crying out loud), this could have been a done deal.
I'm resigned to the fact that if Hillary and Bill have gotten to more superdelegates, McCain will win, and Hillary will STILL be a loser.

  7. I'm from Michigan and I will feel disenfranchised if the Democratic Party decides to seat the delegates. We were told in January that our votes wouldn't count, so I didn't go to the polls. I accepted the decision. To change the decision now wouldn't be fair.

  8. Email Frm Senator Hilary Clinton –

    "Dear Sgt.,

Have you seen the general election polls lately? They consistently show that we'll beat John McCain in November. In a national head-to-head match and in te critical swing states, the numbers show I'm the best candidate to take back the White House for Democrats.

That is why it's critical that we stay in this race and keep fighting for every last vote. We can win the nomination if we extend our popular vote lead, and that means putting everything we have into the final races. With just a few days before the voters in Puerto Rico head to the polls, our campaign is working hard — and your support is making the difference.

Every vote matters. I need you to help today and join our matching program. When you give today, a supporter will match your contribution and double its impact, making your $25 gift worth $50 or your $50 gift worth $100.

Contribute today to have twice the impact on the final primary races.

In the past 24 hours, thousands of you have given generously to our campaign, and I'm so delighted to see your incredible commitment.

With your help, we're going to keep driving forward to victory, and there's no better time to help than right now. By making a contribution today, you'll double your impact when your gift is matched.

Contribute today, and your gift will be matched.

Thank you for putting your heart and spirit into this campaign. I couldn't do it without you.

    Sincerely,

    Hillary Rodham Clinton."

It was really fun counting the ballots in 2000. Marathon Man fun. Thanks for considering my Floridian opinion. I appreciate you telling us the truth up from you. It has been an honor putting my heart and soul into your campaign.

I enjoy it especially when you suck my poll.

  9. Seems like she might have to beat the numbers that Bill had. That's a ;ot of math. Good thing she is good with checking the finances of each of her delegates to make sure they can support her through all of this.
