It sure looks like today is Barack Obama's day…

Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, becoming the first black candidate to lead a major party into a campaign for the White House.

Obama sealed his victory based on public declarations from delegates as well as from an additional 18 who had confirmed their intentions to the AP. The count also included five delegates Obama was guaranteed as long as he gained 15 percent of the vote in South Dakota and Montana later in the day.

Very, very exciting. Gone are the days when only white Democrats had the opportunity to squander huge advantages, lose presidential elections to unpopular Republicans, and break the souls of progressives everywhere. Now, a black man can do it, too!

And the great thing about it is that Hillary Clinton will get the chance to do the same thing for women Democrats in 2012.
