Hillary Clinton Supporters For John McCain

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

One of the big things that all the Democrats and media like to get worried about is the seemingly large percentage of Clinton supporters who seem poised to jump ship from the donkey party if — when — Barack Obama wins the nomination.

While I will agree that it makes perfect sense to do something like that. To choose to vote for someone whose values are completely at odds with your own just because some guy had the nerve to run a successful campaign against your candidate of choice. I mean, that's what a smart, thinking, reasonable person would do, right?

However, it seems that there's a long history of voters — on both sides of the aisle — of talking out of their ass during the big primary battles…

It is true that between 25 and 45 percent of Democrats who voted for Clinton have told pollsters that they would vote for John McCain in the fall rather than Obama, but is that threat credible?

There is considerable evidence that some of those voters are letting their emotions do the talking — and following in a long tradition by doing so. According to ABC News' polling unit, in the spring 1992, only 63% of Democrats who voted for someone other than Bill Clinton in the primaries that year said they would vote for Clinton over George H. W. Bush that fall. In 1996, 66% of Republicans who voted for someone other than Bob Dole in the G.O.P. primary said they would support Dole against Clinton that fall. Al Gore suffered the same apparent dropout problem; only 64% of Democrats who voted for his rivals during the primary said they would be there for Gore in the fall…

"People say these things in the heat of a primary," said a midwestern Republican consultant. "By the fall, they have found other things to be angry about. And they come home."

I don't know. I'm still convinced that we should saddle the country with a heavily conservative-weighted Supreme Court for the next several decades just because the historic female candidate who who was forced to deal with overt sexism lost out the historic black candidate who was forced to deal with overt racism.

It's the smart thing to do.

  1. Ricky C you are no democrat at all. The core values that Palin and Mccain stand for are completely against all democrats beliefs. Mccain married well, after he divorced his first wife. Cindy thinks Palin has foreign experience because Alaska is close to Russia?!? WHAT!? How is Obama a snake oil salesman? He's worked hard, volunteered and is obviously intelligent. He married a SMART, beautiful woman (since spouses mean so much to you) For the sake of all smart democrats, please stop calling yourself a democrat… you are a republican through and through.

  2. I am 70 years old and have never, ever voted republican, but this election, I will! I desided that early on because of the remark Obama, made about "my white house". I thought it belonged to the people. People were crazy when they put Bush back in office, and to vote for a Muslim as our prestident would be even a bigger disaster. Put your thinking caps on America!!

  3. HRC is a remarkable woman and I respect her. I voted for her husband twice. I judged Obama very harshly because he was African-American, like me. My candidate was Edwards, he dropped out, and then I choose HRC. After all her lies, and watching a President that I had voted for tag team an individual, I began to look twice and listen new points of views. Even though HRC lost, she did one thing that earned back my respect, by endorsing BHO. Because at the end of the day HRC is a DEMOCRAT, no way in hell would she have let the bitterness of defeat stop her from during everything in her being to elect Obama? Never would she have gone against her party under any circumstance. Had Obama lost, no way in hell would I have let bitterness send me to MACCAIN or STAY HOME? I am a PROUD DEMOCRAT. Ask yourself, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? Where you in it for HRC, or was you in it for the cause as HRC said. Voting for MaCcain out of bitterness makes you traitors to HRC. HRC supporters that vote for republicans, go, they deserve you and I hope you enjoy your $4 gas, I hope your house goes into foreclosure, milk rise to $8, I hope MaCcain w/ his bad temple start a war w/ Iran and Russia and implement the draft, taking away our sons daughters, husbands. All because you cut off your nose to spite your face. Basically voting against everything my candidate and I stood for because we lost.

  4. Victory Day
    Oct. 24th, 2008

Ladies and gentlemen, today I ask for you help. We are in the final stretch of this long campaign. It has been long and tiring what work we have done for our campaign and our country, but today I say this, KEEP FIGHTING! The polls in the last few days after the last debate has swung in John McCain’s favor. He still trails but this is a definite closing in the polls. Today we are issuing the following proclamation:

Today we the supporters of John McCain for the 44th President of the United States do proclaim October 24, 2008 as “Victory Day”! On that day we call upon all supporters of John McCain and Sarah Palin to contribute on that day. The reason for this call to action is the recent news of Barack Obama’s campaign has reported it raised $150 million in September. With Barack Obama going back on his word to use government election funds to now raising all these private funds is giving him a massive cash advantage after not being a man of his word! On this day we want to show that the American people are solidly behind John McCain and Sarah Palin! Our goal is to raise $5 million dollars on that day! It sounds like a large marker to hit but I am positive that the vast silent majority of America wants John McCain to be our next President and rejecting socialism! Anything that you can give to help make headlines and show the media that we will keep fighting on, that John McCain and Sarah Palin can go on to victory! So if you can give, $10, $25, $50, $100, $200, $500, $1000 or any amount for the cause of victory, you can help show that we can raise money just as Barack Obama can, that in the final days, John McCain’s support is indeed the vast majority of Americans. This money will be contributed to the Republican National Party to assist in campaign expenses in several swing states like, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, or any where John McCain and Sarah Palin will fight for us. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated to offset the massive amount of money Barack Obama is raising, some of which is questionable since the Obama campaign has not fully disclosed all of its contributors. Lets finish this race strong, keep positive, keep working hard, and keep fighting. We cannot win without you! That’s why today we issue you this call too action! Onward to victory!!!

  5. John McCain, you can count on my vote. It was a tough choice. If Senator Obama wins, I will give him my full support.

In the meantime, let's throw some pies. We the people are just having enough fun.

  6. Wait, I meant I am not having fun. Are you having fun Cube?

How can this matter that much? After all, independent candidates cannot even get into a debate. If they did, things would be a whole lot different.Don't you think?

  7. I vote for sweet potato pie. Or do I spell it "potatoe"? Who resurrected this thread? Too sad. Hillary supporters, get out of the snit you've been driving around in for months, hold your nose if you must and determine to vote for the only party that truly has women's issues at heart. It begins with the same intiial as "retrograde." Now, bring on the pies! I have been converted. Not all pie are square. Some pie are round.

  8. Tonya,
Your judgement is unfounded. So what if Sarah is President for a year or so. That will just get everybody comfortable with putting HRC in for the next term. Hillary has Experience, character and values, unlike some people I know. John McCain, at least, will keep our country safe! He also has experience, character and values according to Hillary. When I look at the issues, McCain and Hillary are much more aligned! Do your research.

  10. President Obama, the Country has spoken and Obama has been chosen. This is such a great day in America. President Obama will be a great President for our Country.
