John McCain Zings Barack Obama, But Good!
Last night, on NBC's nightly news, John McCain totally zinged it to his rival Barack Obama, leaving him completely burnt, busted and disgusted. Epic burn!
Williams: Is it going to be tough to run with an incumbent party for the White House, given this economic backdrop?
McCain: I– I think it's– it's tough. But I think the American didn't, people didn't get to know me yesterday. They know me. They know that I have fought for restraining spending, which Senator Obama has been a big part of, with earmarking (UNINTEL) projects. They know that I have been a strong fiscal conservative, and they know I understand the challenges that they face.
They need a little break from– from their gasoline taxes, and they — and they know that — we've got to get spending under control. And we've got to become independent of foreign oil. Sen. Obama says that I'm running for a Bush's third terms. It seems to me he's running for Jimmy Carter's second. (LAUGHTER)
Aaaawwwww…. SNAP!
Wait. Who's Jimmy Carter?

"(Unitel)." Pretty sneaky sis/bro. McCain needs the listening device.
If you've been reading this blog, it's not only true, but dead on as far as analogies go.
It is very true that the American economy is a big ship that can NOT be turned around on a dime–it takes time. So, it is very true that some economic downturns are the fault of the predecessor and likewise the good times can be the result of a predecessor. But to pretend that it takes four years–or even eight!–is stretching it. The disastrous Vietnam War ended in 1975. The economic problems of 1978-'80 can be DIRECTLY attributed to the extreme policies of Jimmy Carter. (Carter was a very decent human being before and after his presidency, but he was a very poor president even giving him benefit of doubt whenever possible.)
Similarly, everyone loves to talk about the economy during Clinton's years. It's true that Clinton did not totally screw up very good CIRCUMSTANCES, but he overtaxed to achieve the ends. (Clinton was the FIRST president to not pay for the massive costs of the Cold War and the LAST president to not pay for the massive costs of combatting terrorism.)
In sum, it IS a good analogy that Obama's policies will be disastrous for this country just as Carter's were. Look, the best indicator of the TRUE strength of individual athletes or athletic teams is the Vegas line on betting. The best indicator of what a president will do for/TO the economy is what Wall Street thinks. Look how it's dropped since Obama's rise and really watch it drop if he's elected. That's not just bad for Wall Street, it's bad for the whole economy.
To assume that the recent downturn in the stock market is linked to Obama is perhaps the most preposterous assessment of economics I have ever heard. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the soaring cost of fuel and every type of agricultural product known to man. It definitely doesn't reflect the extremely weak consumer confidence level or the inflated stock prices of over valued corporations. And housing market shmousing market. So who's responsible for the failed economic policies of the past 7 years, surely it couldn't be GW.
Let's talk about Jimmy Carter in relation to McCain and Obama.
If McCain win the presidency, he'll be facing a hostile Congress with a majority of Democrats in both Houses.
That means when McCain tries to increase his budget over what Bush did in his past 2 terms, the Senate is going to have convulsions trying to reduce it. "Fiscally strong conservative" is right, McLame-keep spending money like we have it. Under Carter, Congress couldn't agree on the budget twice-both times the military paid us out of the petty cash fund the base commander had for emergencies!
If Obama wins, taxes will increase to pay off the +trillion dollar debt; he'll go after lobbyists; and people like McCain will raise a hue and cry not heard since Rachel wept for her children. The spending for Iraq will reduce, and more troops will come home. And in the meantime, the Senate will be conducting more and more oversight hearings over the things that Bush and Co. have tried to suppress from the public.
Defeat McCain.
So uh, if McCain wins, in economic terms, we're… dead?

I voted Hilary Clinton, and only support Hilary Clinton, No matter what Hilary Does suspend her campaign concede her campaign. No matter what Hilary does she could even support Obama and campaign for Obama I will never Vote for Barack Obama, I do think America is ready for a black president, just not Barack Obama,,, The way The Democratic party handle this election with the Corporate Media propaganda this whole election, Turned this election upside down,, Obama could of ran over someone,, like Haley Berry, No one would care and still vote,, Obama..

@Paul V
Man, that's amazing. How do you manage to ramble on that long without making anything resembling a valid point or a complete sentence?
If you want to stay in Iraq indefinately, continue the Bush administrations tax and trade policies, and get "Scalia-like" justices appointed to the Supreme Court; then go ahead and vote for McCain.
However, if you're thinking of voting for McCain because you question Obama's patriotism or you think he won the nomination unfairly; then grow the fuck up.
How was the media unfairly harsh on Hillary? By pointing out the unavoidable fact that she was too far behind in delegates to catch up. Let's not forget how hard the media tried to dog Obama with flag pins and the Reverend Wright fiasco. How did he respond? He rose above all of that petty crap and brought it back to the issues. Finally, anyone who is voting for McCain because Hillary didn't win is completely blind to the values her entire platform was built on. She said herself that a vote for McCain is a vote against everything she ever has and ever will fight for. To jump party lines between such starkly contrasting candidates as in the the general election shows a complete ignorance of the issues that will be decided in the coming election.
I have lived in this country for 10 years, and I find it interesting to compare the election process here and in my former country. The biggest difference is that here, politicians focus on pandering to special interests. There, both of the two major parties talk about the national interest; that is, reducing government spending, stabilizing prices, and creating incentives for investment.
Another difference is that here, no comparisons are ever made to other countries in terms of economic policies, such as taxation or government spending. It is assumed here that America is the bastion of free enterprise. This is contrary to my observations: America has become far more socialistic than my former country. There, capital gains taxes are far lower: you pay nothing on the first 50% of your earnings. In addition, they don't subsidize housing, provide tax deductions for interest or property taxes, and would never consider bailing out deadbeat homeowners.
Based on what I have seen in this election and how it compares to other countries, America is heading towards an ultra-socialist economy and possibly a one-party state. Bush deserves some of the blame; he pushed for an open border with Mexico and socialized the housing market. The Democrats will take his policies to the next level, and the majority of Americans will go along with it until after it is too late.
