BREAKING: New York Times Reports Tim Russert Has Died of a Heart Attack
Update: From Huffington Post…
Russert suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed Friday afternoon in NBC's Washington bureau, according to the New York Post
Russert was in the tracking booth, recording a track, when he collapsed. He returned from Italy Thursday night. His wife, Maureen Orth, and son Luke, are still in Italy.
TVNewser reminds us that "Around 1pmET this afternoon, Russert was conducting a political Q&A on MSNBC.com."
The New York Times currently has a breaking news banner claiming that Tim Russert has died of a heart attack.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and colleagues. We will update as we receive information.
Below the fold, watch some of Jon Stewart's interviews of Tim Russert from happier times.

Don't beat me up, but I honestly think Jon would make a good host for Meet the Press. he asks tough questions, and he was one of few in the media that questioned Iraq from the beginning. if obama gets elected this fall, the daily show will be hurting for material, and jon stewart could do great things for meet the press.
condolences to tim's family.
I am so saddened by Tim Russert's death. What a decent man he was, who added so much to the political discourse. I will miss him a lot. My symphathies to his family and his colleagues.
AAAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!
Tim Russert was a misogynist republican white guy. Have you ever seen him interview Dick Cheney? There was a reason the Bush white house all went to be on Meet the Press you know. All the way up until 2005, Russert was a conservative mouthpiece.
Mourn the man, but do NOT paint him to be Mother Teresa. He was jsut another misogynist white guy blowhard who was totally in love with himself.
This is all driving me crazy.
I can't believe anyone would call Tim Russert a Republican…try doing your homework, Russert was an Irish Catholic who idolized J
FK…worked for Mario Cuomo and Daniel Patrick Moynahan…he was I believe a Democrat who never played favorites with politics. He grilled everyone equally, hoping to get to the truth for the benefit of the American public. He was one of the few journalists we could count on to give the American audience what we deserve from every TV news show, which is integrity, honesty and humility. He was the standard that every anchor should aspire to be.
Alice June can't see the forest for the Women Studies program. I bet 10 bucks she'll someday regret that post. 10 bucks because I'm broke and because she's standing on the shoulders of people like Russert.
Alice June- couldn't even wait a week, huh?
Lucy Knight June, doesn't understand. How many chances shall we put you down for Rush?
I am a little ashamed to admit the fact that I cried when I heard the news while in France that Tim Russert died. It was such a unbelievable shock. This is a guy I watched every Sunday on Meet the Press. I also watched all the other Sunday political shows as well, but I always came to the same conclusion every week: Russert was the best.
Now, I'm no privileged nor working class white woman — as if it mattered. I'm a black woman. I did not always agree with the guy. I thought the framing of some of his questions did not consider the enormous barriers created by race, gender, and class.
I was, however, witness to the fact, week after week, that Russert was willing to be educated by his peers, his guests, and the American people. I admired and respected his tenacity, his integrity, and above all, his biography.
He reminded me of my father. Like Tim Russert, he was the first to graduate from college with a graduate-level degree. Like Russert, my father worked hard. Coming from southern working-class roots in the 1940s, my father, like Russert, was the consumate professional, and took pride in being the best in his profession.
Aside from all the personal crap about myself, I LOVE POLITICS! Sundays will not be the same without Tim Russert and Meet the Press.
in an age where so many people are writing negative memoirs (deservedly so) Frank McCourt et al, Tim Russert's book about his father is truly an affirmation of good parenting. It rates up their with The Cosby Show in terms of showing the world that good parents can change the world!
so can bad ones
