Crusading Conservative Pundits Strike Hard Blow at Evil, Adorable WALL-E

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

So, I was just randomly pushing buttons on my computer with my eyes closed, and I happened upon this page on a website that I've absolutely never heard of called SuicideGirls. I have no idea what the main focus of the website is, but they do appear to have a political blogger called FearTheReaper on staff, and he's uncovered a phenomenon that had totally escaped me.

Apparently, the conservative right half of Blogopolis is all busy wailing in distress and wrending their clothes over that new Pixar movie, WALL-E (Ed Note: Adorable!). You know, that movie about that Robert Novak-looking robot in the future who falls in love with a flying iPhone?

Why? Because it's sending out a dangerous message to children that we should not completely destroy the Earth. Fuckin' hippy robots!

He quotes NRO's Shannen Coffin

From the first moment of the film, my kids were bombarded with leftist propaganda about the evils of mankind. It's a shame, too, because the robot had promise. The story was just awful, however.

FTR's response…

Hey, lady named after the box we put dead people in, the movie is about love and the dangers of excess. Believing in exercise and using your mind are not part of the "liberal agenda." That God you worship sort of set shit up like that. He gave you parts to use. The movie is saying if you don't use the shit God gave you, then it ain't gonna work out that well. As far as all the pollution, you may want to become familiar with the term "exaggeration" because it is a pretty common storytelling tool. And as far as it being an "awful" story — welcome to the world of being alone.

And there's so much more! I'd like to quote the whole article, but would be, um… stealing. So, you should read the whole thing. That is, if you're the kind of person who enjoys banging their head against the wall.

Oh, and if you figure out what the rest of the website is like, let me know. I hear they have pictures there or something.

  2. I know it's a joke that you ask this, but for those who don't want to wander around SuicideGirls and figure out the, umm… hard… way, it's a porn site.

  3. Yo Leo, there are a lot of sane Christians who like "Wall-E." Like my family (I haven't seen it yet). But of course they vote Democrat, so I guess they're not "really" Christian. Just like Obama. And I guess Shannen Coffin hasn't noticed the growing numbers of otherwise conservative evangelicals who are starting to realize, hey, maybe God doesn't want us destroying the planet out of greed! Ah well; when their water isn't drinkable and their air isn't breathable and the rapture hasn't happened yet, maybe they'll all realize the "leftists" were right all along (sorry for the pun).

  5. Well, what would conservatives do with this movie…
They'd bombard our children with falsehoods, such as:
evangelist Christian robots, teaching children that the country is better off without freedom of thought, speech, assembly, or habeus corpus; that pre-emptive war is legal, and the only way to combat terrorism; that rules don't apply to conservatives; and that anyone who doesn't believe as they do will all go to hell and destroy the country…

  6. It's a shame that individuals like this Shannen Coffin cannot accept that art and culture reflect the society around them. There is much ugliness in our cultural artifacts, but also, as in the case of what WALL-E is attempting to present, much compassion, kindness, and hope. The fear-mongers of the right, who have so successfully deluded enough of the populace to keep them in office, exaggerate the real fears of a dangerous world, and distort them and pervert them for their own ends. Ms. Coffin, in her zealous monitoring of popular culture, is a sad case in that she cannot see what this little film truly has to say. Finally, it can only be said that the tragic failing of those on the extreme political right is their soulessness. Have you noticed how unmoved George W. Bush and his cronies seem to be at the heartbreaking death and destruction that have wrought to further their own political lives? Something fundamentally human and decent is completely missing in these people and I would be sad for them if, like Ms. Coffin, they had the ability to feel anything but hollow anger at the things they fear and do not understand.

  7. I can’t believe they brought Johnny 5 from Short Circuit out of retirement. And what’s the deal with having a Johnny 5 movie without Fisher Stevens in heavy make up?

  8. right… because showing the evil results of when business and government are one and the same and when no one needs to work because said government/business provides everything so leftist propaganda.

  9. why can't christ just freakin come back and gather up all the freakin christains already – so the rest of us can enjoy a freakin movie or have a negative thought about where America is heading in freakin peace… (argh)
