How We Ruined the New Batman Movie for Everyone in the World

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

Somebody just made a really good point about this Batman-related post from earlier today…

I had avoided seeing what Two-Face was going to look like in The Dark Knight because it was something that I thought would be much more enjoyable to see only when and how Christopher Nolan & Co. wanted to present it on the big screen… Until exactly two minutes ago. When it was ruined for me. By Comedy Central's Indecision 2008 blog.

Thanks a lot, jerks. Seriously, you couldn't have waited three days for this mediocre joke?

Oh my God, this is so embarrassing! We didn't think about that at all!

When we called up our good friend Christopher Nolan and asked if he could send us an actual still of the highly-guarded make-up effects for Two-Face from The Dark Knight, we didn't even consider the possibility that we might completely ruin the movie for everyone in the world. Our bad.

Jeeze! Why didn't we just type the phrase "two face" into Google (not Google Image Search, but Google) and find the first picture that some 14-year-old kid photoshopped in his bedroom and use that? Some people just aren't very smart, I guess.

By the way, since we already blew the lid off this one, I might as well tell you that the image comes from a scene in which the recently-mutilated character Harvey Dent is sitting at a picnic table in front of a perfectly white glacier, having a head shot taken at the request of his supervillain agency.

Update: Sometimes, I can be a jerk. (And by "sometimes," I mean "usually.")

  1. Thanks Dethanos. Your stuff always cracks me up and is informative. I haven't really read comics since the 80's and I'm glad to see the writers and directors taking a cue from Frank Miller. That show was awesome last night. People clapping throughout. Absolutely you can tell a distinction in the flicks lately (except for Fantastic 4). The only movie I thought was solid as a kid in this genre was Superman II. KNEEL BEFORE ZOD. I wouldn't mind seeing Justice League (minus the Wonder Twins) vs. Legion of Doom. Spacey could get real Sozzeeish. Budget would be outta control. Ironman kicked butt too, but this was stellar.

  2. For Risky Rev. –

I think the change you're seeing in the movies reflects a change that occurred in comics a generation ago. When Frank Miller started writing Batman, he gave the character a darkness that had been lost in the campy Adam West version of the character. Around the same time, the writers at Marvel were exploring Ironman's alcoholism, and the Punisher was just racking up his first bodycounts.

The filmmakers of today grew up reading a darker, more serious comic than their predecessors, and it is reflected in their work. I expect good things from the Batman franchise and from Marvel Studios in the next few years.

  3. I guess comic book folks can get worked into a frenzy over great expectations and be jerks. Sorry dude. I repent. It shouldn't have taken an easter egg either. Anyways, feel free to rip me here and curious to hear what you think of the comparison to Ironman and the genre change.

  4. Golly Mr. Daniller, I stand corrected. Comedy Central ruined the movie for me. That's exactly what Two-Face looked like.

On a side note. THE DARK KNIGHT WAS WITHOUT QUESTION THE BEST DAMNED SUPERHERO FLICK OF ALL TIME. It stands on its' own as a masterpiece forgetting about the superhero genre. Christopher Nolan is brilliant and has changed the scope of comic book film direction forever. You have Dark Knight and to a lesser extent (though I can see a blog war on this issue) Ironman as the pivotal points of change in superhero film making. Maybe an argument for The Punisher, but, that ain't no pimple on The Dark Knight's ass. RIP Heath Ledger. His performance crushes, no, obliterates Jack's and as good as he was perceived to have been, it is all but forgotten now except as just another example of Jack playing Jack (with makeup).

  5. Sorry, obamagramma, but I gotta disagree with you on that one. Batman's friendship with Harvey Dent, and failure to save him are as much a part of the Batman mythos as the Joker and the Batmobile.

Sure, everyone want to see Ledger's performance, but that doesn't mean they don't care about Eckhart, Oldham, Caine, and Freeman. Oh, I think Christian Bale might be in it too.

  6. Unfortunately for Aaron Eckhart, no one cares about his role in this movie.

by obamagramma July 16th at 10:52PM
  7. Aaron Eckhart (like "someone else") is eating his heart out because a dead (or quasi dead) competitor is getting all the attention.

  8. I'd really like to write a disturbing and Raunchy satire of Mr. Daniller's deep analysis, but I'm concerned Robin won't get it would be permanently scarred.

  9. Thanks for telling us about the glacier, dickwads. Ever hear of a spoiler alert?

  10. Meanwhile, back at the Halls Of Justice… this is actually a super, duper, stealthy, secret, shot of Two Face in wardrobe. This movie was so realistic, at the pre-screening I attended they actually spend a good ten minutes of Batman primping and getting powder puffed by Alfred. Get out of your… na na na na na na na na NA, NERD CAVE. Colbert's got Captain America's shield baby. He has been entrusted with it since Caps untimely demise. Never would it be used as a sword. Better duck. Spoiler alert: Captain America has a cameo.

For my own edification I'd like to know, is it "Jeez" or "Geez?" For Christ's sake, I don't want to take the Lord's name in vein. Amen.
