Something Actually Interesting in Kansas Politics

Ever heard of Sean Tevis? Me neither.
But, apparently, he's running for state representative in Kansas or Arkansas or Uberkansas or someplace. I can't say that I know all that much about his policies, but I can tell you that he's my favorite politician in forever.
In an effort to raise the 26,000 that he needs to raise by July 28th that he needs (for some reason) to beat the incumbent Arlen Siegfreid, Tevis (or somebody brilliant on his team) created this web comic ("Running for Office: It's Like A Flamewar with a Forum Troll, but with an Eventual Winner") in the style of my favorite web comic, xkcd.

According to the comic's flawless logic, Tevis needs to accomplish the "impossible" task of getting 3,000 people to donate $8.34 to a state representative campaign. (I would think that everyone was into those kinds of things. Maybe I'll take this up with my state representative, whoever he or she is.)
As of the time of writing this, he's up to 2,326.

I am trying to take a page out of Sean's book with a JibJab about my race for judge. If you're Tired of Corruption, Go to chrisDavisForJudge.com and learn in JibJab style why Nevada Courts have become a national soap opera plagued with scandal after scandal. Then join the fight against corruption at ChrisDavisForJudge.com.
YEAH!!
I just looked it up and I do live in Tevis's district. He's got my vote!

My family lives in Douglas County… I'm the one living in Johnson County (in Iowa). Yes, you are right, Douglas is the "liberal" one (there are still plenty of conservatives, but they're in the minority). I feel like an idiot now…
I don't really wanna bash Kansas; it's the butt of so many jokes, as though there weren't at least a dozen states with the same problems or worse. And as for "something actually interesting"… well, for a state as small as it is, Kansas is in the news an awful lot, though not always for things its residents might want.
Plus, I believe John called Gov. Kathleen Sibelius a "cougar."
That. Is. Amazing. My hat off to this guy and I hope he does well!
Oops — I live about four blocks too much north to get to vote in that one……….
Johnson County is an odd one in politics… I've been waiting for the Daily Show to come do something about Phill Kline. He lost as Attorney General so he was made DA http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2006/dec/12/kline_chosen_johnson_county_district_attorney/
He breaks the law by not living in the county he works http://www.tonyskansascity.com/2007/11/phil-kline-dont-live-here-anymore.html
He spends most of this time worried about abortion http://abcnews.go.com/thelaw/Story?id=3752146&page=3
He's running for reelection and has James Dobson on his side http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/story/708424.html
BTW election time is always funny here too. I get to see signs for Jon Stewart running for office. http://www.jocoelection.org/Directory/D-JCCC.htm
Somehow, I'm sure most of Kansas's problems are caused by being so damn close to Oklahoma. Anything that sucks that much is bound to cause issues.
oh, good! let's start a kansas war on the blog.
"johnson county … the one non-ridiculously-conservative county in Kansas."
come on. you know douglas county is just as liberal. Those Jayhawks are all about non-conservatives. Rock Chalk Barack!
By the way, CubbyChaser, with Kansans inspiring people to shudder in horror as we outlaw evolution in the schools and with people writing books like "What's the matter with Kansas?" you know we're a happening place.
whoah – Johnson county, where my family lives (i don't). the one non-ridiculously-conservative county in Kansas. it's the only one that went to Kerry and didn't pass the no-rights-for-non-married-couples amendment. and wow, a pol in Kansas who doesn't name abortion and gay marriage a top issue. that's progress.
