John McCain Comes Out Hard Against John McCain in New TV Ad

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

In a new television ad, John McCain — who "has voted with President Bush 100% of the time in 2008 and 95% of the time in 2007" — is now trying to distance himself from Mr. Unpopularity and re-polish his image as "the original Maverick"…

"Washington's broken. John McCain knows it," the announcer in the ad says. "We're worse off than we were four years ago.

"Only McCain has taken on big tobacco, drug companies, fought corruption in both parties. He'll reform Wall Street, battle 'Big Oil,' make America prosper again. He's the original maverick."

(Direct link here.)

What McCain should be doing is brushing up on his Jedi Mind Trick skills, because this is wholly unconvincing.

  1. Martin Sheen endorsed New Mexico's Bill Richardson in December 2007, but after Richardson dropped out, he changed his support for Obama in May, 2008.
Obviously, he's not going to be doing voice overs for McCain. This is a great opportunity for them to "call out" McCain for having a Martin Sheen "sound-alike" doing his voice overs.

  2. Could it be Charlie Sheen? Or maybe Emilio Estevez (sp?)? Not sure of their political affiliations.

  3. Of course Martin is such a hack actor, he may do anything for a buck.

  4. It sure sounds like Martin Sheen which I am sure was the point. Charlie Sheen sounds very much like his dad but has a lot higher tone and Emilio Estevez does not sound like him at all. I can guarantee it is not Martin, I grew up in Malibu and went to Carden school in the late 60s early 70s and Emilio and Charlie and their younger brother were in the same school. Martin is so liberal that when my mom came to pick me up from school one day and noticed a large black spider on the car near the door he yelled "don't kill it don't kill it" and promptly got a dried piece of orange peel from the bushes and carefully scooped it up and placed it in the bushes. True story I was there and witnessed the whole thing!

  5. After googling Martin Sheen & McCain ad, I am so relieved that it's not his voice based on these comments. It freaked me out. I hope Martin Sheen does an for Obama now.

  6. That is not Martin Sheen in the McCain ad voiceover.

Sad that they are using an imposter to sound like him. It would seem too early to start silly games like this.

  7. Hey, all – I've had a lot of experience working on many types of political campaign spots for both parties. I can tell you that the voice isn't Martin Sheen, and that the McCain campaign hired this voiceover talent because, silly as it seems, Sheen's Bartlett scored high points with Americans when asked if they'd vote for Bartlett if he was really running. The McCain campaign has sunk to a new level of sleaze.

  8. Martin Sheen's brother Joe Estevez continues to do lots of voice work over the years and he sounds exactly like Martin Sheen. (In fact, that's his voice you sometimes hear during the narration in Apocalypse Now).

    Could be him?

  9. I knew it couldn't be Sheen, given his outspoken liberal stance, but I still find that it catches me off-guard each time it airs. I shouldn't be surprised that the McCain camp has sunk this low, but it's still disturbing. Hope the Obama folks give Sheen a call and get a counter-attack out there soon.

  10. Wow… I don't watch much TV but feel asleep watching some late night TV and woke up about 5:45 to what I thought was Sheen's voice.. this is the google I got and McCain is pretty pathetic.
