Clinton Aide: John Edwards' Skill at Hiding His Scuzziness Cost Hillary Clinton the Nomination
On behalf of the entire media and blogosphere to Howard Wolfson and the rest of Hillary Clinton's campaign aides.
We are gravely sorry that we didn't dig up seedy, nasty dirt on John Edwards back in 2007 so that you could all continue with your lazy, uninspired, short-sighted plans for Senator Clinton's campaign without actually having to be confronted with the possibility that there was a possibility of being held accountable for your lack of effort…
Sen. Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic presidential nominee if John Edwards had been caught in his lie about an extramarital affair and forced out of the race last year, insists a top Clinton campaign aide, making a charge that could exacerbate previously existing tensions between the camps of Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama.
"I believe we would have won Iowa, and Clinton today would therefore have been the nominee," former Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson told ABC News.com.
You know, I can understand what Wolfson is saying. And it certainly is the case that he might be right, and that if Edwards had been knocked out prior to primary season, Hillary Clinton might have recieved enough of his votes to win Iowa and get the momentum that she needed to sweep the rest of the states early on… exactly as her team expected would happen. That might be the case.
Only thing is: my time machine is broken, and I can't go back to January and verify that theory.
But do you what I know to be the case? That is Wolfson and Mark Penn and everyone else on Team Clinton had made a strategy beyond Iowa and New Hampshire — even considered the possibility that Clinton nomination might not be an abject inevitability — that Hillary Clinton would be the nominee today.

According to FiveThirtyEight.com, if Wolfson was paying any attention whatsoever to the polling data in Iowa then he should be fairly aware he's telling massive porky pies: Obama was the second choice of a majority of Edwards voters, so his margin would have been substantially higher had Edwards 'chosen' not to compete.

Obama and Edwards were splitting the "Not Hillary" vote before Edwards dropped out, so I really doubt this would have helped her pathetic campaign. She already had the misandry vote all tied up.
Edwards wife will now be elected a U.S. senator. Her qualifications are that she is an aggrieved wife that was cheated on. Also, Spitzer's wife will be elected U.S. senator if there are enough openings for all famous wives that have been cheated on. The Democratic ticket next election cycle will be Hillary/Elizabeth/Ms. Spitzer. They will draw straws to see who gets to be prez, VP, and who has to sit out.
This is news?! -another of Hillary's former staff playing the 'what if' card!
Oh like its worst than Bill's affairs with Flowers and what's her name… Beak Face.
John Edwards is not stopping Elizabeth from talking. Elizabeth allowed John to lie to voters and misrepresent himself as a family man when she knew in 2006 that he was a cheater.
Elizabeth, thanks for the enabling your cheatin husband John Edwards to hide his girlfriend with baby from the voters. That stuff wouldn't have gone down very well in Iowa. It made it easy to steal Hillary's votes!!! I'll bet Elizabeth would not have supported her husband if she knew that Rielle Hunter was trashing her in front of John. Now, go buy some diapers.
Hillary Clinton should take on Obama in Denver on the convention floor. What's she got to lose? Nada!
Well, that's not what happened so get over it.
