Will he or won't he? That's the question on the minds of Democrats and state troopers alike as indicted, paroled, electronically tethered, re-indicted, and soon-to-be hogtied Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick ponders a trip to the Democratic National Convention to serve as a Barack Obama superdelegate.

Yesterday, a judge ruled that Kilpatrick would be permitted by the court to attend the convention in Denver,  the only exception to a sentence that otherwise confines the mayor to Wayne County, Michigan.

In response, the Obama campaign warned Kilpatrick he'd be welcomed as warmly as Bill Clinton at a Sister Souljah concert…

The Obama campaign's unequivocal message to the mayor: stay home.

A Michigan-based spokesman for Obama… Brent Colburn said in an e-mail that "the focus of our convention to people back in Michigan should be on Barack Obama and how the party intends to get America back on track, not (on) a distraction involving the troubles of one individual."

Don't expect Kilpatrick to pay much heed to the notion that his appearance could end up hurting Obama. He's already disregarded warnings not to…

* Throw a stripper party at the mayor's mansion

* Carry on an affair with his chief of staff

* Graphically detail said affair in over 14,000 text messages

* Send his goons to rough up a news reporter investigating his controversial SUV lease

* Issue a death threat against a prosecutor

* Assault a sheriff's deputy

* Violate his bond from jail twice in three weeks

If Kilpatrick had no problem committing any of these acts, why on earth would he miss this convention just because his party's presidential nominee asked him to?

I mean, what's Obama gonna do to Kilpatrick? Tell his mom?
