Democratic Louisiana Congressman Will Hopefully Do Time in His Own District
Bad news for William Jefferson. A federal judge has refused to dismiss racketeering charges against the Democratic congressman from Louisiana, who's been embattled by allegations of impropriety for years.
The federal RICO charges, which are usually used against mafia bosses, stem from the aggregate of Jefferson's alleged crimes, including…
* Masterminding a criminal scheme to arrange business deals in Africa in exchange for payments to his family members.
* Obstructing justice by hiding $90,000 in cash in his freezer.
* Aiding and abetting the Botswanan blood-diamond trade.
* Looting a New Orleans Rite-Aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
OK, I made that last one up, but the point is that Jefferson is pretty much screwed.
However, the good news is that his trial isn't until December, allowing the voters of Louisiana a chance to reelect him yet again.
Just as they did in 2006, despite the ongoing FBI investigation!

I still cannot comprehend the ignorance, arrogance and the complete lack of honor or self respect that this guy has. What is even more incredible is that anyone would actually vote for him!
I think that he should be allowed to serve the people from his jail cell without a salary, and his votes on any issues won't count. The idiots that vote for him should be penalized too.

Folks in Louisiana are fiercely proud of their corrupt politicians. They believe that thess guys are the real deal because they can be bought but stay bought! Edwin Edwards would have been back in office if he could have run from prison.
It doesn't matter. They didn't care in 2006 and they won't care in 2008. He will stay in congress until the cops literally drag him out of the capitol.
William Jefferson is a crook and crooks go to jail. End of story. If the voters are too stupid to get him out themselves, then the courts will do it. For the record, I believe that about robbing the Riteaid.
