The Democrats Get a Joe Lieberman of Their Very Own
Who says that sanctimonious, droopy-faced Senators from Connecticut have a monopoly on ditching their party's nominee at the altar?
Just as the Republican Convention will showcase Sen. Joe Lieberman, Democrats have found their own former party rival to deliver a prime-time speech here at the Democratic National Convention: Jim Leach, the former GOP congressman from Iowa who has endorsed Barack Obama for president.
This is an incredible coup for the Democrats. Jim Leach! What a stud! I mean, who could forget how he famously… well, let's see here… how he famously… uh… served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the British Army and captured a trench from the Germans with "a sudden bayonet attack" in October 1914? Eh? Eh?
Hmm… I guess that was the wrong Jim Leach.
Well the one endorsing Obama is equally accomplished, with career highlights ranging from requiring the federal government to use soy ink to losing his seat to a write-in Democrat in 2006.
So let Leach pandemonium rain down on Denver! True, the ex-Iowa Congressman has not headlined an unstable reverend's political conference, been humiliated in his own party's primary, or preposterously declared a three-way tie for third when he finished 5th in an election. But let's go easy on him.
There can only be one Joe Lieberman.

Didn't he used to host "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" ?
You know what? Leach was pretty darn good tonight!
