McCain MSM and the GOP do not want all of America to see the anti-McCain support there that would burst out spontaneously to the detriment of "party unity". It would make the neocon/GOP appear to be hated by their own party members…can't have that, nothing to see here folks move along.

Well, they also have a more immediate problem. Legally, the Republicans' own bylaws require that the candidate be nominated at convention. Even though we (think, my edit) know the outcome already, the actual act of voting in convention has to take place, by law. Otherwise, legally, McCain can't be considered the nominee of his party.
