Sarah Palin Finally Joins the GOP Proper
Boy, it seems that this "Sarah Palin" character is in the news a lot these days! It's hard to keep it all straight – something about how she fired a state trooper because of the Bridge to Nowhere, which somehow caused Hurricane Gustav …
Well, one thing that's clear is that a bunch of folks are calling the evangelical Christian Alaska Governor a hypocrite for preaching about family values and abstinence education while her 17 year old unmarried daughter gets pregnant.
These pundits are forgetting that Palin is following in a proud tradition of Republicans being utterly hypocritical when it comes to personal matters. Indulge me while I rehash this star lineup!
- Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), of wide stance fame, was a major force behind the military's anti-gay "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.
- Rep. Vito Fossela (R-NY), who secretly maintained a second family in Virginia, was a proud supporter of the "Marriage Protection Act."
- Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL), whose political career ended in disgrace after sexually harassing Congressional Pages, once had this to say about Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal: ""It's vile. It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction."
And that's not all! The tradition stretches back years (don't even get me started on Warren Harding)!
So let's stop painting Palin as some sort of hypocritical outlier and instead as what she is – a proud standard-bearer of the GOP.

Hey, I don't wanna start a fight or anything on here, but support for the Civil Rights Movement led to a split in the Democratic base with the "Dixiecrats" heading over to the Republican party. So yes, while Democrats did vote against the civil rights act, a lot of those people didn't stay Democrats BECAUSE of President Johnson's support of it.

Yes I know Eva K . The point I was trying to make is about Libs like Longrider who re write history saying it was the Democratic Party who Began the Civil Rights Movemant . They did not. The Republican Party started it and finished it. When Dems preach lies people that do not know or understand the truth believe these lies. It is pathetic when one has to lie about the truth or history to make people believe or agree with them. If you have your own beliefs and you truly believe in them why would one have to lie to others to get them to believe in them with you???? If you lie to get others to agree with you then your beliefs are not worth anything. Like the people who were protesting in St. Paul , Mn . I don't think that the Democrats have the market cornered on lying, it is like that on both sides. Anybody who has an opinion and voices it, (whether they be lying or just ignorant of the facts) is bound to sway some people their way. I am a proud Obama supporter, (despite being Alaskan) I don't think that makes me ignorant or badly educated, nor do I believe that Deputy881 is for believing otherwise. I do think that statements like "the Dems are only after their personal agenda and not for the well being of the American People" is ridiculous. Republicans can't be put under that banner? I am living in a state that has become a national political joke BECAUSE of the rampant corruption of the Republican party here. I don't understand when it was exactly that one political party won the moral high ground. Seems to me that if people are selfish bastards, so too will follow their politicians, regardless of party.

Eva K, you are absolutley right. Both sides have their problems as I mentioned in previous posts. But what bothers me is the fact that the dems are the first to show a wrong in the Republican party and they act as if wow look what they are doing and noone does this on the democratic side of the political arena. When in fact I can show you historical data showing that actually there is more curruption on the Denmocratic ticket then on the Republican ticket. Politics is currupted , we all know that. Dre. I think you need to look up the Agenda of the Dems compared to the Agenda of the Republicans my friend. Let me inform you here . I owned a Auto Repair business in Democrat California for 4 years , I was taxed so high it was rediculis. My income was a gross of around a avg of $450,000 a year. I was taxed as it was my net not gross. If you do not know the diference net is actuall take home gross is before expenses. There is a very big difference in the two. I also owned a 18 wheeler. I grossed about 180k a year again I was taxed as if it was my actuall income. I wish !!!! Take away fuel , repairs etc my income was much lower. If you have the ability to read and the ability to actually understand Obama's tax plan you would not be for him unless you were not making any money . 28k a year is not money.Yes lots of people make 28 k a year and after taxes that is not much. Let me ask you is 75K a year a rich lifestyle ????? Obama thinks it is, if you make 75 k a year gross you are in the higher tax bracket obama wants to raise. He wants to raise the death tax ???? Nah, it's just a dead thread, Deputy881. We could go round and round on these issues, but the simple fact is if you don't care or respect where another person is coming from, then you aren't going to listen to what they have to say. Everytime you talk about "socialized medicine" and "paying for someone else's college" and "people who can't afford children shouldn't have them" I want to go hide under a desk somewhere. My kids get Medicaid, my husband and I got federal grants to go to school, and we struggle every day with cost of living. We pay our fair share of taxes, and thanks to our educations we have jobs that pay well enough that we don't get it back at tax time. But times are still hard. It's unfortunate that those in the higher tax brackets have more taxes taken out, and it sure would be nice to get some back in the form of a refund…but JEEZ! What kind of society doesn't help to take care of the people who are less fortunate? I don't believe that just because some people take advantage of a system that the system should be disbanded. These things really help people, and I will continue to pay taxes if it means that someone gets the kind of help that served my family. I am sorry if you resent the fact that you helped pay for it, but I guess if you have not been in that situation, it is harder to see the inherent good in social programs.
EVA K , yes I'm glad you and your family got help.I am not mean spirited . I know from experience there are thousands of people in Riverside , CA. that are too lazy to get a job or go to school and are milking our system dry. They have more kids and get more money. Riverside County Regional Medical Center has a ER which every day it is filled up with illegal aliens mainly hispanic , with no insurance . They do not pay taxes !. They can not be turned away and they fill up the ER with colds and coughs when real emergencies have to wait in line. California is BANKRUPT! Not to be mean but really what does it take for people to realize that this is hurting America.All the EARMARKS from both sides of the fence are destroying our Country. Taxes for a good cause I can live with but taxes just to hand out money to anyone and everyone is rediculis. How much of our hard earned money has to be taken from us? We get taxed from our pay checks, taxed when we spend our pay checks, taxed when we save our pay checks and taxed when we invest our paychecks. Enough is enough. I worked 2 jobs while going to school, during this time I didnt look into getting a family, it could wait. Why ?? because I could not afford a family at the time.I would never take upon something that I can pay for myself. I bought a semi truck , 18 wheeler. Worked my butt off away for 2 to 6 weeks at a time , made awesome money.Paid off the truck and worked even harder to get all bills paid off. Being away from home for 2 to 6 weeks sucks and it is a sacrifice many others do every day. Sure I could have stood inline to get welfare or free money for my kids etc. No I did not! No I would not. There is jobs out here that pay well , may not be a job you wanna do or may be too hard, oh well !! what kind of life you want for yourself and family.
I work hard every day every week and every year and it gets tiresome to see democrats and some republicans talk about raising taxes so others who are less fortunate can have more.. I did not come from a rich family and I am not rich. Never will be if they keep raising my taxes every time I turn around. I know work in Law Enforcement and I tell you I see all kinds of people everyday, good and bad. Innocent people being taken advantage of and low lifers who do the taken without remorse.
