Election Day

We know that November 3, 2009 isn't a real Election Day. But still, we can all pretend. Right? Take a look at these six elections and let us know how much you care.

*"Nuclear" did not appear in the text the RNC released of her speech, but astute listener Tom Music says otherwise.  We'll go to the video tape when it's available…

UPDATE: The reason I was unable to find the word "nuclear" in the text the RNC released is because they did not spell it correctly.  They spelled it phonetically:

Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines … build more new-clear plants… create jobs with clean coal… and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources.

And later:

Terrorist states are seeking new-clear weapons without delay … he wants to meet them without preconditions.

"New" and "clear" certainly have more pleasant connotations than "nuclear."

  1. Hi,
Have you ever heard of aerial hunting? It's a brutal practice. Wolves are shot from low-flying aircraft or chased to exhaustion, then killed at point-blank range.

Do we really want Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from running this country???

Governor Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for Vice President, promotes this barbaric practice, exploiting a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act to allow private wolf killers to shoot down wolves using aircraft. We have to get the word out about this!

  2. I totally agree – Best show and one of the most important topics "Choice" ever addressed. Gov. Palin did not mention that her daughter's decision was based on the law of the land that provides females in this country with a "CHOICE"

Congratulations to Samantha Bee on her extraordinary segment on 'CHOICE". It was wonderful. People just don't seem to understand that they actually have a "choice" and generations before us fought a battle with society so that women in this country could have a choice.

I'm so grateful to The Daily Show for trying to get the message out that so many people just take it for granted that a female (child, teenager, and woman) currently has the luxury of being able to make a choice and not a government mandated decision.

I wish there was a video of Gov. Palin stating that it was her daughter's "decision" (which implies CHOICE”) to have her baby.

    Thank you again.

  3. Responsibilities of a Mayor of a small town. It takes a majority vote of a town council (6 council members and mayor) to make decisions for a city.

I live in a small, rural town in Arizona with a population of approximately 11,000 people. While Wasilla has a much bigger budget than our small town, their city council seems to be very similar to ours. Wasilla has a mayor and 6 people on their town council. The mayor does not make decisions alone; there must be approval of the majority of the town council – the responsibilities for decisions made must be voted on by the full town council and the majority rules; the mayor is only one vote in our town.

Our mayor has a full-time job at the post office and the mayor's job is part-time and the pay is a nominal fee. We have several separate boards and committees that also serve our town and report their findings, issues, and recommendations to the Town Council. I looked at the information on the City of Wasilla's website and their town council agenda's are very similar to ours, with meetings 3 or 4 times a month. I think Palin is getting too much credit for her experience as mayor when there is also a town council of 6 other people involved in decisions made for governing the town.

  4. Thanks, Nancy Lynn – I didn't know that about small town mayors. When Palin said that the democrats don't know what the responsibilities of a small town mayor are, it was treated as a laugh line. I THINK that she was trying to imply that Obama and Biden are so inexperienced that they couldn't even run a small town….? But it's a lot funnier to think that everyone laughed because small town mayors have almost NO responsibilities!

  5. For Vice President I would pick Prime Minister Putin of Russia. He also has hunting fixation and lack for rights.

As an aside with the noticeable lack of unscripted Sarah Palin, have you noticed that the Special AKA's Free Nelson Mandela is a tune you could use for Free Sarah Palin.

  6. Please, the only real choice for VP, is Cumberland County Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman, Victor Stabile! This upstanding Republican, is suing to get the Libertarian Party Candidate, Bob Barr, off of the Pennsylvania ballot! The Libertarians decided to change Candidates, and Mr. Stabile has decided for the whole state of Pennsylvania, that the citizens should not be allowed to vote for the Libertarian Candidate. He knows that this is EXACTLY what the Republicans did on the Texas ballot (they originally applied with no candidate name, and gave McCain as their candidate this week after the deadline had already passed last week) and he doesn't want the Libertarians to have to live with the same shame, of being on the ballot after changing their candidate, like the Republicans will now have to do in Texas! He has the best interest of the voters in mind (giving less candidates to choose from, so they don't get confused, and vote for the wrong person). This I feel should put him as the front runner of the VP pool! He has simplified the voting procedure in Pennsylvania! Why research, and choose who you want to vote for! Mr. Stabile will narrow down the decisions for you, and tell you who you are going to vote for!
