Election Day

We know that November 3, 2009 isn't a real Election Day. But still, we can all pretend. Right? Take a look at these six elections and let us know how much you care.

The Joementum Stops Here

Now he's really done it! In his rousing endorsement of John McCain and Sarah Palin at the RNC on Tuesday, Sen. Joe Lieberman may have pissed off his own party for the last time. The Connecticut Democrat's criticism of Barack Obama was not surprising given his long-time support for McCain, but the high-profile venue made his betrayal that much worse.

Lieberman may be punished by being stripped of his committee chairmanship:

During the speech, the Connecticut senator praised GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and criticizing Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama.

"The Democratic Caucus will reassess the situation with Sen. Lieberman after the election," Jim Manley, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said Wednesday.

Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, now calls himself an "independent Democrat," but he remains a member of the Senate Democratic Caucus which allows him to head the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

It's unclear what Lieberman would do if he lost his committee chairmanship. One option would be to join the Senate Republican Caucus, but that would doom him to reside in an impotent minority in the chamber.

A better choice, in my opinion, would be to start a new third party, dedicated to tough foreign policy and social liberalism. Most importantly, this new party would be in favor of marriage equality, so that Lieberman can finally gay-marry George W. Bush!

  2. He deserves every bad thing that happens to him, frankly. Is this a speech a Democrat gives? http://www.entertonement.com/collections/2867/Joe-Lieberman-At-the-2008-Republican-National-Conv

  3. Whoa! Is this still the USA, is Freedom of Speech still a constitutional right of all Americans, including Joe Lieberman. You mean he should be fired from a job he was voted to by his constituients because some of you dont approve of his bi-partisanship?

I guess it was okay when Obama said we are not Democrats and Republicans, we are Americans. But Joe Liberman cant say that at the RNC…

  6. Joe Liberman is a warmonger, he's a peddler who works both sides of the aisle for AIPAC. He wants America to foot the bill against Iran on Israel's behalf. Joe's motto: Israel first…

  7. Lieberman sounds a bit like Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama.

  8. To Mary America: Joe was NOT elected by the Democrats! He changed his Democratic affiliation to Independent after his defeat by Democrat Ned Lamont, then falsely accused Lamont's campaign of sabotaging his Web site. He kept secret the CT Attorney General's determination that his campaign had crashed its own website and then rode to "victory" with the votes of Connecticut Republicans whose own nominee was a less acceptable Republican than Lieberman was!!

  9. Remember the good old days when all Liberman did was stay home and look after ALF?

  10. If I hadn't had an absentee in '06, I would have flown back to CT just to vote for Lieberman. On anything other than the war(s) he lines up with us just fine. Sure he's at the RNC, but shouldn't more centrist voices be heard there (thank goodness)? For as much as we want to rise above party, we don't look highly on politicians who do. Besides, it's only fair. Remember Jim Jeffords?
