Sarah Palin's Undergraduate Odyssey

POSTED BY: Ethan Ris

I really wanted to not write about Sarah Palin today, but my God I just can't help myself. The latest news is that Palin apparently had a somewhat non-traditional college experience. As in, she transferred schools six times…

1. Palin matriculates as a freshman at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She drops out "after a few weeks because of the constant rain there."

2. Palin enrolls at Hawaii Pacific University, a private college in Honolulu, as a Business Administration major. She leaves after a semester.

3. Palin transfers to North Idaho College, a Coeur d'Alene community college. She completes two semesters as a General Studies Major.

4. Palin transfers to the University of Idaho as a sophomore, in the Journalism program

5. Palin transfers to to Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska and completes one semesters.

6. Palin heads back to the University of Idaho for three more semesters and graduates with a degree in Journalism.

Now, a lot of Americans may be able to identify with Palin's undergraduate odyssey – but not her running mate, John McCain. McCain only attended one college, the United States Naval Academy. But maybe he should have considered transferring – ideally to a school where he wouldn't have finished #894 out of the 899 graduates in his class!

  1. running a country is not rocket science is false, while we live only once average americans do not know how to enjoy life compared to australians who get 6 months paid leave from work after 7 years of work. Health care free. Education free if they can not get a job in their field. Austrians get similar, scandinavians also. Even Brasilians get 5 weeks vacation to enjoy life and on top of that Carnival 7 days off and more holidays on top of that. And all these people are doing fine, they are not poor as they would have you believe here. Here the doctors leave you to die in the emergency room if you are not rich. Get a grip on things conservatives you are out of touch and crazy warmongers who do not know what life is about and for whom the govt works. It for sure should not work for your narrow views which you try to impose on everyone. You lie that life goes according to you, you do not own life it belongs to the people and brainwashing us fits into your conservative narrow world of sadness, murder, and religious nonsense. My religion is beauty and that trumps religion because a renaissance is born of beauty and not religious fervour. Religious fervour in beauty is good but based on boring bible rhetoric it makes no sense pragmatically. Conservatives pray to uglyness and jesus would not support that. jesus would support michaelangelo who was called the devine one. Pat robertson is not divine but rater evil and is cheezy and bad taste. Bad taste spells bad for the economy while good taste spells prosperity. The american population should do something for themselves and forget their bosses and square narrow minded conservatives who just are plain boring and pushy individuals with no common sense.

  2. If the Palin's college odyssey bothers the left, it sure as hell endears many of us in middle America. Most of us don't have sugar daddies or qualified for "special" grants and have to foot the bill ourselves. Footing the bill might actually mean you have to follow the money. It means you have to work and maybe even move to find a job to cover tuition to another school. Not everybody gets a free ride.

This argument again shows the complete disconnect of the left.

  4. Why is the media, including you guys, in bed with Hussein Obama? When are you going to grow a pair and report his scandals and shortcomings? And by the way he is less black than most caucasians.

  6. Geek, you've got to be kidding with that ignorant racist comment!! IF you can find some scandals, go for it. It appears your big problem is with his middle name, real scarey.

  7. Sarah Palin, the self-described "red-headed sasquatch for Jesus." Gotta' love it!

  8. Palin is Bush in skirts.

  9. dano I think you are completely disconnected. The Obamas took out loans and worked during the summer to pay for college, just like most of america. John Mccain went to a private prep HS and his college was paid for, no loans. Cindy Mccain has enough money to burn so definitely no need for loans. Maybe Cindy can sell off her RNC outfits to send some under privileged kids to college.

  10. It's about proven competence. Both Palin and McCain have shown a distain for learning about the world. One thing that I really liked about Bill Clinton was that when he had a tough decision to make he often gathered people on all sides of the question together and listened to them debate until he reached a decision. Bush and McCain seem to think that examining all sides of an issue shows weakness — and got us into Iraq because they didn't listen to the people who had real knowledge of the people and culture.l

Rove took one of Kerry's strengths — that he was a hero in Viet Nam — and used the Swift Boats to turn it on its head. Rove is now taking one of Obama's strengths — that he is an intelligent, educated man who has thought deeply about both foreign and domestic issues — and called it "elitist." The more fools us if we buy it.

We've had 8 years of the fraternity buddy — the back-slapping, low-achieving guy who distained curiosity about the facts in favor of gut decisions — and look where we are.

I'd like a president who is competent — one who is smart and well-educated.
