Election Day

We know that November 3, 2009 isn't a real Election Day. But still, we can all pretend. Right? Take a look at these six elections and let us know how much you care.

Sarah Palin's Undergraduate Odyssey

POSTED BY: Ethan Ris

I really wanted to not write about Sarah Palin today, but my God I just can't help myself. The latest news is that Palin apparently had a somewhat non-traditional college experience. As in, she transferred schools six times…

1. Palin matriculates as a freshman at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She drops out "after a few weeks because of the constant rain there."

2. Palin enrolls at Hawaii Pacific University, a private college in Honolulu, as a Business Administration major. She leaves after a semester.

3. Palin transfers to North Idaho College, a Coeur d'Alene community college. She completes two semesters as a General Studies Major.

4. Palin transfers to the University of Idaho as a sophomore, in the Journalism program

5. Palin transfers to to Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska and completes one semesters.

6. Palin heads back to the University of Idaho for three more semesters and graduates with a degree in Journalism.

Now, a lot of Americans may be able to identify with Palin's undergraduate odyssey – but not her running mate, John McCain. McCain only attended one college, the United States Naval Academy. But maybe he should have considered transferring – ideally to a school where he wouldn't have finished #894 out of the 899 graduates in his class!

  1. It appears that the Republican party has, out of its desperation, chosen a pot-smoking, bastard-making, rifle-toting, caribou-killing, moose-hunting, ANWR-drilling, vengeful and corrupy hoochi mama to be the VP nominee and hence next in line to be the next president of the United States! Apparently her "family values" or lack thereof does not bother the bible-thumping holy rollers. Does anyone find it slightly odd that McCain seems to have a thing for ex beauty queen wannabes? What next? Cabinet posts for playboy bunnies and retired Hooters waitresses?

  2. Dano dear.. if you are poor, you don't shuttle from one private school to another. instead you get a job, go to an in state public school – that is if you are smart enough to get into one :-) , and complete your degree like most of us in middle America do. When someone shuttles from one school to another it is usually because he/she was about to flunk out or got put on probabation for any number of reasons (e.g., being caught cheating on a test, being caught smoking dope, etc.)

  3. Cindy McCain's one outfit costs as much ($300,000) as it would cost to put about 20 kids through one year of college in a reasonable state school.

  4. Hey John….Either you or Colbert have to do a countdown to Sarah Palin showing up on your show like they did on Faux News….That would be hilarious!!!

  7. well, while I am not planning to vote for him, and don't particularly like his politics, and am starting off loathing his choice for VP …

1 – the fact that McSame's college was "paid for" was because he attended Annapolis. "Paid for" in this case meaning "we own your ass for many years". "Paid for" implies some cushy sort of thing. It's scholarship. Deriding that is no different than deriding the millions of folks who get them for other reasons.

2 – so he graduated at the bottom of his class … so what? He graduated, didn't he? If we were to challenge the graduation criteria at Annapolis and say "they let idiotic incompetents graduate", well, then that's not McSame's fault.

The fact that Cindy McCain has tons of money has nothing to do with Mr. McCain's need (or lack thereof) for loans 50 years ago.

Learn the truth about Sarah Palin….

  9. Frank Rich, New York Times, Sept. 6, on Sarah Palin:

She didn’t say “no thanks” to the “Bridge to Nowhere” until after Congress had already abandoned it but given Alaska a blank check for $223 million in taxpayers’ money anyway. Far from rejecting federal pork, she hired lobbyists to secure her town a disproportionate share of earmarks ($1,000 per resident in 2002, 20 times the per capita average in other states). Though McCain claimed “she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities,” she has never issued a single command as head of the Alaska National Guard. As for her “executive experience” as mayor, she told her hometown paper in Wasilla, Alaska, in 1996, the year of her election: “It’s not rocket science. It’s $6 million and 53 employees.” Her much-advertised crusade against officials abusing their office is now compromised by a bipartisan ethics investigation into charges that she did the same.

How long before we learn she never shot a moose?

  10. The only credential that Sen. McCain's running mate brings to the table is her ability to deliver a sarcastic speech written by someone else. Some Pharisees, I mean Republicans, thinks she will win over the Senator Hillary Clinton supporters. . . .how stupid. Senator Clinton's supporters supported her because of her platform, not because she is a woman. Senator Clinton's platform is closer to Senator Obama's, not some gun toting, moose shooting, college hopping, sarcastic, ethics compromising, governor of Alaska. If sarcasm, arrogance and enability to speak with reporters without her handlers, are qualifications for VP, then yes, Senator McCain has chosen a winner for the Pharisees (Republican Party). I am tired of hearing her name, so I won't waste my time mentioning it.
