I rarely remember my dreams, but for the past week, GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has been haunting me. Night after night, she appears in my dreams, always as a scolding, ominous figure.
When I mentioned my Palin dreams to Slate colleagues, they volunteered their own. One Obama-supporting colleague dreamed she had urged her young son to kill Palin with a string bean. Another dreamed she was at a fashion show and Palin served her creme fraiche on little scooped corn chips.
A third says, "In the Sarah Palin dream I keep having, she has superhuman powers but is not really a person at all. In fact, she is more like the weather with glasses and an up-do, pushing clouds around and pitching lightning bolts."
I myself have not had any Sarah Palin dreams at all. But that probably because I haven't gotten any sleep at all since I became aware of the distinct possibility that someone who believes more so in talking snakes than in my niece's right to equal pay is very likely to be the vice-president.
This Palinphobia has really been making the rounds in the scuzzy, liberal circles in which I run. Everybody I know is scared shitless of her. And not just because John McCain apparently chose her as his running mate on a dare. People are imbuing her with dark, mystical powers.
But why? Based on what? A couple of really well-delivered speeches that George Bush's speechwriter wrote for her and a YouTube video of her reporting on an Iditarod? (I guess. That's really all it took for the GOP base to accept her as their new savior.)
My guess is that — in the absence of having any decent amount of information on her — people are attaching their own fears and hopes onto her (exactly as they did with Obama several months ago, before we all heard him speak a few billion times).
Later this week, we'll get to see her interview with Charlie Gibson on ABC News. After that, maybe I'll get to actually sleep and have my own Sarah Palin dreams.
Or Iditarod dreams.
Or, hopefully, both.

How decent of democRats to be concerned about the good guys not having 'enough information on 'her' — Fact is, neither do they but that never stopped them – they simply concocted, invented, and brewed what was not available, then offered the kool aid to the cultic followers of their messiah (People's temple redux?), who seem content to swallow it without the benefit of critical examination.
To form a 'more perfect union' between absurdity and mendacity they sent a team of well funded 'investigators' to comb every nether region and look under every rock and crevice in order to find something… ANYTHING that could be tweaked, embellished and deconstructed in order to smear and dismember what so unexpectedly frightened them.
Imagine the fear that possessed them at the thought of the American public responding to, and identifying with 'the girl next door,' 'the Killa from Wasilla…' The threat to ObZero had to be destroyed, and we have yet to see the end of their infamy, it continues unabated.
In fact, this whole blog is a trough full of unvarnished hatred, lies and character assassination to which the faithful sidle up to swill with not the least inkling of compunction.

Actually, for any person of integrity and sufficient rational capacity — knowing how the fawning Obsama media has perverted the art of objective interviewing anyone even distantly attached to the Republican campaign into a gotcha game/ blood sport, while lapping up every inane and hypocritical word coming out of the mouth of the stuttering wonder along with those of his pit bull with lipstick of a wife – - the feeling is one of "Who the hell cares!" What exactly is wrong with Sarah Palin? WHY has the media and others jumped on her to rip her to shreds? And WHY isn't the same standard applied to MR Obama? I find this absolutely WRONG. Since when is it okay to question the ability of a woman to run a govern't, but not a man? Who has more reason, understanding, fortitude, courage, smarts? Why hasn't anyone bothered to CONDEMN Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Obama, or any other woman in office, and blast them for not staying home to care for their KIDS? Who really KNOWS the mind or heart of any of these people running for office? Perhaps only by their words & actions? WHY is the media refusing to be FAIR and equitable and present the FACTS on ALL candidates? Biden is a BUMBLING FOOL, who can't keep his mouth shut long enough, before his foot flies into it; OBAMA is no angel, and has a track record of next to nothing to show for his years of "service"; Service to whom? @mtngal – When people say that Democrats bow to the radical left who hate America, its values and its people, what they are really talking about is how threatened they personally feel. They conflate "America" to mean "me and people like me". America is not you. And unless you are an elected official you do not represent America. Nor are your values the same as America's values.
America is all of us, together. Democrats do not despise America any more than Republicans do. Democrats are just as patriotic as Republicans are. If you do not like the values that the other party holds dear, vote and participate and make sure your voice is heard.
People who get elected to the highest offices in the land understand all of this. They understand that they represent everyone, not just a select group.
As for what is "wrong" with Sarah Palin, it depends on how you look at it. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with her as long as she stays in Alaska as their duly elected Governor. As a VP and a potential President, there is a lot to be desired, including her views on Russia, religion, lack of foreign policy knowledge, and her attack dog attitude. But that is my opinion, and you asked.
