Barack Obama: No! It's My Money! All Mine!

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

Remember the good ol' days a few months ago, when Barack Obama's campaign had so much money that they were practically burning it like arugala? (Because noone actually eats that stuff, right?)

Well, those days are over. Between the economy's soundness and the need to fight back against McCain's negative campaign, the Obamanites find themselves as poor as… well… anybody else in America. Obama might have had a record-breaking $66 million month, but that really just means he has about $66,000,127 in the bank. (Give or take $11 million.) That's roughly half as much as the Republicans.

In light of that, Obama is understandable reticent to share much… wait, no… any of that money with Harry Reid and the congressional Democrats to help increase their majority…

Although Democratic insiders say a better deal could still come, the Obama campaign so far has agreed only to let Senate Democrats use Obama's name — as well as those of his wife and running mate — in mail and online fundraising pitches.

Oh, they're allowed to use Barack Obama's name? That's a generous offer. And his name is in such short supply. You hardly ever see his name being used these days. Well, not since Sarah Palin was announced, anyway.

But maybe — just maybe — Obama could do some kind of joint fundraising event with House or Senate Democrats, you know, just to help them refill the ol' coffers a bit.

The campaign has planned no joint fundraising events with House or Senate Democrats, and insiders say none is likely to be held before Election Day.

Um, okay.

But how about after Election Day. That would still be helpful, right?

  1. I work in a local Democratic race & let me tell you, they have perfected losing. Obama needs to keep his $$$ to keep party discipline. The new Obama blood & organization skill is very good for the party.

  2. I'll wait to talk about crossing party-lines after Obama's done crossing party-lines.

  3. Well, you know it takes a lot of wherewithal to 'keep up with the McCainses'. Do you have any idea how much it costs to acquire and keep a really good attack dog?
