I only caught a part this but I was wondering if Jon pointed out Barbara's lyrical foyble. In her song she says she slept better when the democrats were in the majority, which they have been for the last two years, without any real change in the state of our economy accept for a possible worsening.
It really depends on how well the celebrity knows the issues. I mean, how do we know that a celebrity sunning herself at the beach doesn't really have the latest issue of "Foreign Affairs" magazine hidden in "People," or that he isn't coming out of a club checking the latest RSS feed from STRATFOR.com?
Because they only have a slight majority, the Dems can not really lead an effective opposition to the President in Congress as the Republicans did in the 90s. And W still has too much influence with his executive level decisions such as these tax-payer funded bailouts of private companies. Even if they did have an effective majority, the Dems wouldn't be much use, because what this country REALLY needs is a break-up of the two-party system, in which TRUE opposition parties can join in coalitions to effect REAL change. That said, moderates can all sleep better once the NeoCons are gone.
Depends on the celebrity. Oprah helps, Tom Cruise doesnt. Bono helps, Paris Hilton doesnt. But either way I dont think celebrities have enough of an impact to really tip the scales.
