Even Fox News Trying to Get Away From John McCain

POSTED BY: Dylan Ris

Sounds like ol' Rupert Murdoch is hedging his bets again. Normally right-of-center, he spent a good two years halfway up Hillary Clinton's large intestine when her presidential stock was through the roof. But now that Barack Obama is the nominee, Murdoch has started re-lubing his head all over again.

Step one: He orders Fox News to distance itself from the McCain campaign

Fox News sent a cease-and-desist letter to the McCain campaign today over a new ad that includes the voice of correspondent Major Garrett, according to a letter obtained by Politico…

"We demand that you immediately remove Mr. Garrett's voice from this ad. As Mr. Garrett is a nonpartisan news correspondent covering the Obama campaign for Fox News, it is highly inappropriate, among other things, of your campaign to use him in your ad."

McCain's response was worthy of his "maverick" moniker. He became the first Republican since Lincoln to rebuff Fox News

McCain counsel Trevor Potter… wrote back in a letter sent tonight that the campaign would not alter the video.

"We respectfully disagree with your suggestion that the Nothing New ad somehow portrays Mr. Garrett (who is not even identified) as anything other than a nonpartisan news correspondent covering the campaign," Potter wrote in a letter obtained by Politico.

With all due respect to McCain, is this really the best time to pick a fight with the network that just aired a broadcast of Sean Hannity blowing Sarah Palin on national TV?

If he's wise, McCain will slavishly embrace the demands of Fox News. Their tag team of O'Reilly, Coulter, Rove, and the aforementioned Hannity is eager to boost his candidacy, particularly if they can work in an Alan Colmes wedgie along the way.

But this starts with McCain playing ball with Fox. Anything short of abject pandering, and the maverick Senator can look forward to watching Murdoch and Obama exchange terrorist fist jabs at the latter's inaugural ball.

  1. I didn't know Fox had any nonpartisan people, since the media's """""liberal""""".

  3. I think it is interesting as Bob put it, that McCain was a staunch conservative until he found there are moer votes to be had as a liberal. NOW he's all about change. Whew he had me worried that we were in store for another 4 (at least) years of the same old crap. Now I see I was sadly mistaken.

  4. I thought Rove's dissing of the ticket and the individual candidates in several major newspapers last week was a death knell; now FOX is bailing too?! Didn't they realize John wasn't returning their e-mails, because he is a technofeeb?

  5. McCain being stiffed by Fox is like Norman Bates being denied by his dead mother. (Don't even think about it.)

  6. I don't think Hannity was blowing Palin on national T.V. That's not fair. He was just going down on her and had good diction.

  7. Murdoch still wants Hillary hard and heavy.

  8. So in one short week McCain went for a free market, hard right conservative to a socialist liberal. That is a candidate of change.
