The Colbert Report: John McCain Suspends His Campaign So He Can Fix the Economy
Stephen can't think of anything more presidential than suspending your presidential campaign.
Will John McCain help the economic meltdown by returning to Washington, or is he just avoiding the debates?
PERMALINK:

My Bedtime Story For Today:
And when the dust settled, and the bipartisan committee seemed to end up in favor of 'some version' of the administration's economic bailout plan, those testifying all said it needed to be done, agreed (belatedly) to oversight, and all the King's men pushed back their chairs.
AFTERWARDS, it has generally been agreed to by everyone that Senator Cox really got behind it and Senators Crapo and Akaka are all over it now.
(I just couldn't stop laughing. I'm so sorry, I've been up since the 4th. Please forgive me)
Just out: a Dutch TV station has found footage of Bush literally showing his love for the fact that "Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will give people with low income or a bad credit history a change to buy the same house as everybody else". Bush said this in his speech about how he wants the lower incomes to get the same home ownership percentage as other incomes. The speech is taped in oktober 2002 at the Universiteit van Washington, right before subprime loans got booming (see the graph in the original dutch article at http://www.rtl.nl/(/financien/rtlz/nieuws/)/components/financien/rtlz/2008/weken_2008/39/0924_1400_bush_startschot_subprime.xml )
He clearly doesn't understand that low incomes can't just buy the same things normal incomes can afford, because they don't have the money to pay for it…
The speech is at: http://www.rtl.nl/components/financien/rtlz/miMedia/2008/week39/wo_1400_speech_bush.avi_plain.xml
I've heard of Chicken McNuggets, but Chicken McCain?
What do you repubs say about your Chicken McCain now?
But, what do expect from someone who graduated(?) 5th from the bottom of his 600 person class at the Naval Academy?
Too bad, it's test time John, and your Admiral daddy can't get you through this time.

McCain's going to do to the economy what he did to his campaign.
If McCain isn't going to attend the debates, I urge everyone here to contact the Committee on Presidential Debates and ask that they invite Ralph Nader and Bob Barr to appear in his place. Here's their number:
202-872-1020
Ben Bernanke lost his hanky,
Henry Paulson found it.
Seven hundred trillion dollars
Needed to get round it.
'scuse me… but did any of y'all out there notice…
that john mccain crash'd yet another plane?
Look, if McCain and Obama don't debate this Friday night, I expect Palin and Biden to debate instead. There's no excuse to delay Friday's Presidential debate AND the VP debate. Let's get a move on.
God bless you Stephen. In the midst of calamity, you made me laugh.
But please don't mimic McCain again – don't want you going dark on us during this dark time. You're the light, baby!
And it's interesting, isn't it, that in just one week, our economy went from having a sound foundation to being requiring John McCain's full attention. Funny how a slide in the polls makes him react.
The more I see McCain, the less I like him. Yes, I believe he will do anything to not go mano y mano with Sen. Obama. He is so uncomforatable being on the world stage. I believe he has spent his whole life trying to live up to his father & grandfather's legacy and should have done something else entirely. Like being a forest ranger. Smokey McCain. And he would have looked good in the hat, too…
