The Colbert Report: John McCain Suspends His Campaign So He Can Fix the Economy

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Stephen can't think of anything more presidential than suspending your presidential campaign.

Will John McCain help the economic meltdown by returning to Washington, or is he just avoiding the debates?

  1. Can u f'n make this work in Canada – comedy centreal is pissing off LOTS of loyal viewers in Canada by not allowing us to check out the clips.

  2. Ok, I don't care that Palin is a Creationist. I prefer to evaluate ideas based on empirical evidence but hey, that could just be a personality trait that the Governor and I just don't share. I do care however, that she is wildly unqualified, and can't seem to piece together a basic declarative sentence without a script in front of her. But the most objectionable thing about Palin is that she was clearly chosen because of the influence that Mc Cain believed she would have on the campaign, not because of the influence she could have on policy.

  6. Nate,
Your arguments are particularly effective if the remedy sought was to change the nature of marriage in a religious context, but the remedy sought is to change the nature of marriage in a civil context. Homosexuals are asking that marriage be recognized by the state, not a religious organization. Much like many other words or phrases, the common use of a word or historical usage may differ between the legal use (e.g. "person", which may refer to a corporation in the legal usage).

Your religious preferences should be respected, but they have no place in a government and where the two intertwine, the religion must necessarily defer to a government founded on inclusiveness rather than exclusiveness. (See letters between Madison and Jefferson on drafting the 1st amendment for legislative history).

    Kind regards

  7. @nate:

If you haven't heard the multitude of reasons why Palin's resume is paper thin then you haven't been reading/watching/listening to enough varied news sources.

Governor Palin is not qualified for the Vice-Presidency. Don't get me wrong; McCain is certainly qualified, but instead of making the responsible choice and selecting Romney he rolled the dice on a political gambit and asked Palin to join him. Only time will tell whether it will pay off or bite him in the ass. A lot of Republicans were not pleased to see her chosen.

  8. re:marriage:
Because the origin of marriage is only defined in a religious context, that is exactly why christians (and other religions) want to preserve the sanctity of it. Equal civil rights are a totally separate issue, and should be awarded to everyone. But the use of the term marriage for gays is what conservatives are trying to prevent. It takes away from our basic definition of it.

All of this because someone speculates that Palin will ban gay lifestyle in the U.S.. Common, we all know that would never happen.

  10. midwestjack: The question was How does Barack have more experience than Palin? There is no answer to that other than…"he doesn't". If I'm wrong, correct me.
