John McCain's Campaign Suspension Pays Big Dividends With This Morning's Bailout Bill
Around 12:30 this morning, bleary-eyed lawmakers kicked aside the empty liters of Mountain Dew and stumbled out of their offices with a final version of the bailout plan, which will be put to a vote in the House later today.
There's still a great deal of doubt surrounding the bill's potential impact on the economy, but one fact remains certain: if John McCain hadn't heroically suspended his campaign last week, there would be no plan at all. Ladies and gentlemen, John McCain, the man who sacrificed a full day of campaigning to fly to Washington and personally hand-write the details of the bailout!
Republicans acknowledge that no McCain imprint appears to be on the final bailout package moving through Congress, and some of them were trying Sunday to put the best face on his role by casting him as a man of action.
"By halting his campaign, he magnified just how important this bailout was to the nation, and showed that he would approach a crisis by locking everyone in a room and keeping them there until they had a solution," said Anthony V. Carbonetti, a Republican political adviser to former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York.
Exactly. If John McCain hadn't halted his campaign, Americans never would have realized how important it is to prevent total collapse of our economic system. Certainly, no news outlet would have picked up a story like that.
As for McCain's crisis-management style, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but John McCain was once locked in a room for five and a half years. And he didn't emerge from the Hanoi Hilton with anything fancy like a "solution," either.
A response for every question he doesn't want to answer, yes, but no "solutions."

ps: they are arguing their case, right now, live, on CSPAN. Flood Washington, right now, with opposition. Shame them, into voting The Will of The People. Enough is Enough. Make a smarter bill. Not another hasty transfer of power, giving this president, and his appointees, unprecedented power, in energy, in banking, in insurance, and now, entitlement programs for the filthy rich speculators and manipulating investors.
More rhetoric, scare tactics, throw in "gread depression" throw in "protect taxpayers" by making these people pay their loans back, within 5 years. What if these businesses, are not around in 5 years? What if, they all go out of business? Then what? It's such a scam. Essentially, this "gentlelady" is saying "just throw money at it now, and deal with the speculators later." She's talking about the great strides in cracking down on the market abuse they're making. BS. They wanna throw money into Wall St., with the hopes that that will "solve" the market, but it will be right back to crashing, as reality sets in, that we, as a nation, are weak, overspent, and overtaxed. Please. This is madness. This is exactly the time, when we should investigate first, throw money later.
If Palin is qualified because she can see Russia from her house, and John is qualified because he crashed a plane then John is right about Obama being an over qualified professor. Who'd want someone smart to run things anyway?
"…he would approach a crisis by locking everyone in a room and keeping them there until they had a solution…"
So what happens when McCain loses his keys?
"I AM SERIOUS HERE CINDY! I'M LOCKING YOU IN THE BATHROOM UNTIL YOU FIND MY KEYS!"
OK Chris Rock. As a former Denator Clinton supporter, I forgive you. But there is a little matter we need to discuss. The matter of the 57 states. There are 57 states. 50 states, 6 territories, and GITMO. Senator Obama knows about this. Senator McCain knows about it too. And they are both, I believe, on the same page in the sense that they know that something really needs to be done about this. What you may not know is that any lock up facility that is under the juristiction of the feds is a mini Guantanomo Bay. Let me explain.
Roughly 20 years ago, I was drinking and in a shouting match with my boyfriend in which the two of us disturbed a neighbor who called the police. At that time I thought it appropriate to let the police officers who responded on no uncertain terms that my fight with my boyfriend was none of their business. I was handcuffed and taken to the station without undue force of any kind- and locked up in a clean cell. The officers showed up every 30 minutes or so, brought me water, gave me lectures on safety, lectures on behavior and so forth. Nobody fingerprinted me or took my photo, and I was taken to the judge in the clothes I came in with. I was never searched or otherwise humiliated in anyway.
In the interim, our facility was rebuilt as a jail/federal holding facility.
Roughly twenty years later, there was another incident in which I got drunk, went over to the apartment of the guy I had just broken up with, pounded on his door, and demanded custody of the cat because I can't seem to write without her sitting next to me. At that time I told the officers they were dickheads and thus, once again ,I was remanded to custody. Here are the details of that experience:
I arrived in handcuffs and was sat down on a bench. A woman sergeant with ice blue eyes strode over to me with an air of purpose, and without a word, she took my head and banged it hard
against the concrete wall behind me. I had big lumps on the back of my head for about a month afterward. Shock and awe. And naturally, being drunk and sorely lacking in good judgement for the duration, my reaction was to rail at this injustice. So they dragged me to a holding cell that was covered in human filth beyond description. I was refused water, refused medical attention (which I asked for repeatedly because I was afraid I might die of a concussion while strapped to a restraint chair so tightly that I still have a scar on my back). I was made to urinate in the full view of male co's and threatened with pepper spray should I dare to make a move while being uncuffed to change into the standard issue jumpsuit. I will never forget the compassion of the two women guards who were sent in to help me change. They did their best to huddle around me so I would not have to be completely naked in front of a bunch of men who I had never laid eyes on before that night. I was fingerprinted, photographed and roundly mocked and jeered. Imagine that treatment day after day and you have a concentration camp or a pow camp. I heard Senator McCain talk about a favorite teacher he had in school whom he thought a lot about in his days as a pow. I thought about my favorite teacher too- and all the people I love. But at the same I felt my humanity and dignity seeping out me as if some vein had been opened and warm blood was flowing out of my veins. But I swore to myself that if I ever got out of it, I would somehow make a difference, however small. And that's why I'm voting for Senator McCain and Sarah Palin.
I found out later on that my boyfriend, who has a little money stashed but no connections, tried to get me out of there but there was no reprieve. I could not be released until 10:00. Btw, the judge that wouldn't consent to my release is widely known in our area for coke use as well as being "untouchable."
So here's our reality check. Am I a drug dealer? Are you kidding? Drug user? No, just an alcoholic. Have I ever robbed anybody? That's negative. Never even shoftlifted. Have I ever done anyone serious bodily harm? Nope. Never owned a gun or a weapon. Nothing on my record but the one other minor violation, oh, and an anti-abortion protest in which the fanatical women had jolly banter with cops who had a field day smirking at the ridiculousness of bureaucracy. One time in my travels I had purpose to inform on someone I though might be a danger. As it was I was approached and gave information willingly, truthfully, and to the good. I tend to be an asshole on foot too. No DWIs. No felonies. No misdemeanors. I am a forty-six year old woman with a fairly decent resume as far as education and employment are concerned.
So how did this happen to me? It happened because the Bush Administration (GHW as far as I'm concerned) removed all legal protections concerning the treatment of the incarcerated. Sadists who work in jails and prisons have been unleashed to implement foul policies- and the rest stay silent. War on terror? Yeah, right. I'm a real terrorist. Yeah, I deserved all of that.
So now, returning to our point, Chris Rock. I am telling you that the JUSTUS in Justice is not about race. It's about socio-economics. People gotta realize that.
About Senator Clinton. You are wrong and so are a lot of other people. Senator Clinton is not motivated to promote herself so she is often awkward in the spotlight. She is not an actress, she's a public servant. So if you want to catch Senator Clinton at her best "performance" you will have to see her out campaigning or advocating for somebody else. President Clinton, and I think wisely, tried to step up to cover Hillary's weakness, which was always of promoting herself. Born to serve. So the answer to the questions of the pundits as to whether Bill Clinton hurt or helped Hillary's campaign… Aside from the fact that they are want first dibbs on telling us what to think, from where I sit the answer is no, in fact I think we all had a great time watching the man make a fool of himself over a girl. On the whole, it made us forgive him for any injuries sustained or breaches of her honor. I'm not sure how other people think.
Tell Reverend Wright that he has a lot to offer should he decide to join the good fight. He obviously knows culture. I am an anthropologist. Not because that is my official degree but because I had a great teacher who sparked my own journey. Because of me, my elder son decided to take up anthropology in college. He would love to vote for Barack Obama except he lives in Canada now. Met a girl who lives there at a Unitarian youth conference. The Patriot Act sent him packing. Unlike a lot of other young people, he is tuned in. In a McCain administration, political education would be primary. So that people can learn about how their government works and get a solid enough background to participate in it.
Now, listen to me Chris. I am a REAL woman. That means I can sit through Howard Stern and still pick up the message that yes, lawyers have ruined this country.
Don't elect Joe Biden. I don't care who you vote for. I'm voting for McCain.
But here's the kicker. I didn't understand how much a part Guantanomo Bay played in my experience until I went on my community message board and found some chatter about a gaffe that senator Obama made concerning 57 states. Just the same, I trust Senator McCain to clean up the mess in Guantanomo Bay, both here and abroad, before I would trust Senator Obama to do the same as he does not posess any personal experience that would make him highly motivated to do that.
Denator Clinton? Sorry. I never said I could spell.
Breaking news: Bailout Bill has FAILED to pass House 209-226.
One more thing. John McCain did precisely the right thing so that the Senate and Congress would be caught in the act of being what are- selfish, petty, lawyers who are to some of us the infamous scribes and pharisees. These people are not Jews, they are lawyers!
What the freak? You have to listen to Howard Stern because the man knows what he is talking about. He states simply that there are good people- and there are lawyers. Lawyers ruin everything. And most of them are goyim. Seriously. They ruin everything for people who want to have fun and enjoy life. In Athens, the scribes and pharisees were called "sophists". They were teachers and lawyers, and not at all good for the democracy. They were lawyers and businessmen, and not like the Clintons, who master skills such as the elite have, for the benefit of the people. President Clinton and Senator Clinton are like a noble ruling couple. Seriously. Hillary Clinton is on par with Eleanor Roosevelt, at least that is how she came across to me. In fact, my grandfather had a Life magazine tribute to Eleanor. And above her picture in big letters it read,"A Great Lady is Dead." Biden is no good. He represents influence and power in Washington. He is a mogul. Maybe even mashugee after viewing some of those very odd clips that I've caught on the Daily Show. Not to be trusted with a leader as precious as Senator Obama. Now, I'm not afraid that Senator Obama will be assassinated. I'm afraid that Senator Obama will be sold out. I mean to tell you. There are corruptive influences in government that ordinary people cannot even fathom. Senator Biden
knows everything there is to know about because he is a player- say it again play-uh. Good. Now that we understand each other.
Somebody tell Chris Rock I'm kicking his ass next time I see him. After that, we'll be square.
First Lady Laura Bush, you are a treasure. I know that you and your husband would have lived a different kind of life if you were not connected to a family dynasty. God bless you. I love George too. I don't care what anybody says. I'm not going out after a family man. I'm going out for the mobsters.
Uncle Teddy, what I would suggest is prayer if you want to make a comeback as "Lion of the Senate." You have delivered the lamb over to the wolves just because you are no more than a two bit influence peddler.
Uncle Teddy, you better pray if you know what's good for you. I am tired of paying spiritual taxes for people like you.
Bailout as demo of McCain Presidency = Bust !
This economy bullshit is interfering with discussion of Muslims, hockey-moms, celebrity, speaking in tongues, prune juice, oxycontins, race-cards, gender-cards, and other genuine issues.
