Election Day

We know that November 3, 2009 isn't a real Election Day. But still, we can all pretend. Right? Take a look at these six elections and let us know how much you care.

Jon Stewart and Bill Maher Prefer John McCain Because He Was in a War… or at Least They Did Nine Years Ago

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

Bill Maher is gonna be talking with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show tonight.

I wonder if they'll both, once again, reach the consensus that John McCain is preferable to the other guy because he was in a war (and, apparently, drank his own urine) and the other guy wasn't?

Like at the 1:00 minute mark of this Daily Show clip from 1999…

Goes to show you how much the world has changed in nine years. If you notice, Bill and Jon aren't just saying they choose McCain over George W. Bush.

They're saying they choose him over George W. Bush, and the two Democrats: Bill Bradley and Al Gore.

To be fair, though, the late '90s were the days of McCain 1.0.

UPDATE: No surprise, no endorsement for McCain from either Jon or Bill last night.  They didn't talk much election politics but Bill Maher does refer to Obama as "our boy."  Stewart remains uncommitted.

Part 2 after the jump…

  1. The only bit of information I got out of this article after watching the 1999 video is that Dennis DiClaudio has absolutely NO sense of humor. And it's not like any of the other candidates, namely Al Gore, ever served in a war. Granted that Gore's service in the Vietnam War as a journalist does not compare to the hell John McCain went through as a prisoner of war. So obviously to everyone other than Dennis DiClaudio, Bill Maher and Jon Stewart were not speaking as a matter of fact in this video.

Later on in the video, Bill Maher also says that Ann Coulter is a good friend of his. Does Mr. DiClaudio actually think that Bill Maher and Ann Coulter go out to dinner or hang out at the mall? I don't think so. Maher also says she is smart. Also not true.

Dennis DiClaudio, if you believe that Bill Maher and Jon Stewart supported John McCain in the 2000 primaries, then I have some swampland in Florida to sell you.

  2. Bill Maher would like us to think that he is smart, yet he does nothing more than show his own ignorance and indeed, arrogance. He asks unsuspecting people religious questions and assumes that because they (and he) don't know the answer, there must not be one.

"How come God [..] always goes through a prophet."
"Why doesn't God just defeat the devil."
These could certainly be answered at length, and shame on Maher for expecting someone to pop out an answer to a question that philosophers have been debating for known history, then making fun of those who can't.
Even so, the short version is simply: free will.
I suppose Bill Maher would be happier if God simply forced him into worship? If God revealed himself in a way that left no doubt, would there really be a choice left? Perhaps there might be some value in someone choosing freely, sometimes under great duress, vs. someone who chose because they didn't have another option?
Maher has the hubris to believe not only that he's somehow smarter than religious people today, but also by implication, every religious human who's come before him. No surprise… that's simply the foundation upon which all of liberalism stands.

  3. Don't you love it when christianists accuse agnostics of being "self-righteous"?

  4. Maher's a dope, proves it daily. Has stupid people watching him. Even the democrats KNOW that people who vote for them are stupid. They seek out stupid people & MINORITIES – don't believe me, check out the link below. You can't make this stuff up.

  5. does anyone know why haven't these two talked to each other or about each other publicly in the last 9 years? bill maher always changes the subject when someone mentions the daily show.. but i like him and people forget he has a really valid point, religion has no place in politics or government and the politicians who cling to it should be denounced as clinging to irrationality. and that has nothing to do with what people believe in their personal lives, we are talking about executive decisions that have to be made as rational as possible.

anyway it is clear that jon tries to avoid any argument and doesn't really challenge maher, even though he has a more complex and interesting way of thinking. and he also probably regrets telling maher before the show that he was supporting obama…

  6. Not all Christians believe the God and Jesus are the same. It's too bad we get such a bad stereotype.

  7. I think that the reason they said that was at that time you had the choice between a draft evader with 5 deferments (cheney) or a draft evader that had his daddy get him a job in the national guard driving one of them fighter planes. Now driving them fighter planes is a tough job, especially when you have to do it after a long night of tooting coke aznd drinking while gettin that swagger going. I figure they would take the least of the two evils and back a guy that was basically a looser (mccain) who only got into annapolis because of his daddy and was too stupid to figure out a way to avoid going to Vietnam to drive them fighters. It just goes to show you that when you trust the stupidist guy in the class with a multi-million dollar peice of hardware, they are going to go out and wreck it. Sort of like giving a spoiled brat a new Ferrari. Anyway, mccain was too stupid to drive, got shot down, did a couple of propoganda films for the North Vietnamese and then came home and discovered that with his lack of intelligence, he was going to have to be a hamburger flipper except that his arms didnt work very good. Along came Charles Keating, another wing nut who covinced mccain to move to arizona and infiltrate congress so that he could get a bunch of bad legislation passed favoring Keating and his banking buisness. Soon, you had a banking scandal similar to what we have today but on a smaller scale. So when John Stewart and Bill Maher say they would support mccain over chimpy and the dick, its because mccain was the lesser of the 2 evils simply because of his lack of intelligence.
Now we all have a new choice. Obama and Biden or 2 stupid fuckers.
I cant wait to see some comments from you racists!
