John McCain Can Walk, Talk, Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick at the Same Time
Is the New York Times really in the tank for Obama? Or is the New York Times not in the tank for Teddy Roosevelt?
From the Gray Lady's "factcheck" of last night's debate…
[McCain] also, on two occasions, referred to his hero Teddy Roosevelt, citing his famous statement about the need to "speak softly and carry a big stick" — Roosevelt actually said "walk softly and carry a big stick."
Ho ho ho, that dolt John McCain, just like his running-mate with the goofy misquoting.
Except: McCain actually said "talk softly and carry a big stick." Inelegant, yes, but remember: this is a man of the people.
And: As it happens, TR's famous catchprase really was "speak softly and carry a big stick." That's it there in his own typewriting.
There's a lot to ponder here. Should we blame bias, laziness or happy hour specials for the media's lack of accuracy? Is 'talk' an acceptable synonym for 'speak'? How about 'palaver'? Or 'walk'?
Also, exactly how big is McCain's stick?

Okay, this is Comedy Central right! I have read all of your comments and provided your say. That is good and intelligent. But this is Comedy Central. Here is my piece, and peace.

Okay ladies, this is to much for me not to comment on. All you ladies that have meet me know I am the best at analyzing statements and phrases. I also have the talent turning statements like this statement into the best comedy laugh joke ever.
Now –Sylvia actually said "walk softly and carry a BIG DICK."
We have a big dick in the White House you all! Finally!
Just shouting out!
If you haven't grown up by age 72, you don't have much of a chance. McCain is just an old child with a cranky disposition and the inability to tolerate not getting his way. His transparent posturing on important issues is meant to impress us, but he lacks true conviction. He is more focused on disagreeing with his opponent than in presenting his policies. He said we need a steady and on the tiller, but alas, these are characteristics he has not displayed at all in this campaign. I know desperation can bring out bad characteristics in a person, but stress is what a leader should expect. Under stress this man-child shatters like glass. As to the question, I have no opinion nor any interest in the size of his stick; I just hope he does not get it into the WH.
not a big deal. i am much more concerned about mccain's economic policies. those are frightening as is his record on them.
ps jeremy, time to stop the fear-mongering. it's all based on lies and fantasy.
if you elect obama into the white house God help us. we will not have to worry about a war in irac because the war will be here, because there will not be a country in the world who will not want to take on a country who will not stand by what they promised and run away instead. to elect obama into the white house is to say that 9-11 was just a mistake and does not matter to us anymore. he is part of the same group that attacked us then and will open the doors for them to come in all over again. that is why he is so for the baby killing, because he knows that if he kills enough of our people, there will not be enough people left to make a fight. the way he wants babies to die even after they are born is not abortion but murder, not to mention the fact of the mental and physical health of the mothers afterwards. this country was built on the faith and belief in christ and that freedom came with a price that no one anti war will ever understand. if we pull out they will be here killing all of us and not just the ones who decided to JOIN the ARMED FORCES WILLINGLY but our parents, children, grandparents, and others who have no say in the matter. you should be thankful for the ones who gave thier lives freely so you could sit in your easy chair and have the freedom to bash who ever you want and not fight yourselves
Mccain once said he will follow bin laden to the gates of hell, i dont think it makes any sense especially with the number of casualties and deaths inflicted on the US army. If he is to stick to his statement to root out terrorists they when he becomes president he should rename the whole world america of which its very impossible coz he is not gonna win the presidency. To obama the future world president i urge to solve problems by negotiating coz invading peoples country doesent solve the oil issue.
Other McCain gaffes not reported by MSM:
"Fourscore and a couple of hours ago."
"Ask not what your c*nt, can do for you. Ask what you can do for your c*nt."
"It's not over till my ex-wife sings and recovers from her car wreck or I meet a hot blond with cash."
bearness-
You bring up a good point. However, I think you are conflating justification for the war with a good strategy for the war. Vietnam didn't have an Osama bin Laden character, and the true war was U.S. vs. U.S.S.R. (the battle was in Vietnam)
This time, our President promised to invade any country that harbors terrorists. He lied (surprise!) because he had Osama bin Laden cornered in Tora Bora, and ordered Delta Force to hold back so as not to compromise the Pakistani border.
McCain once promised to follow Bin Laden to the 'gates of hell', but apparently that path doesn't lead through Pakistan, either.
I'm glad that once we elect Obama, we'll finally bring America's greatest enemy and threat to justice.
You know this is actually an interesting clip from the debate. You have Obama, who presumably would be critical of the Vietnam War, saying that he would support a policy like the one we had in Vietnam of attacking the enemy in Cambodia. And you have McCain, a Vietnam Vet who once said the only thing we did wrong in Vietnam was withdrawing, is arguing that if we attack Afghan terrorists hiding in Pakistan it would be bad.
I really have no desire to find out.
