Sarah Palin Preps for Saturday Night Live, Sort Of

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

In an shocking and uncharacteristic move, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is going into a big challenging endeavor without any knowledge of the job

Sarah Palin discussed her upcoming "Saturday Night Live" appearance on Friday, telling Neal Boortz in a radio interview that she does not know what the late-night sketch comedy show has lined up for her while adding that it is a chance to "rise above the political shots that we take."

"I haven't seen a script — not at all. They haven't even hinted about what that script is going to say," said Palin.

"But you know," she said, "I just want to be there to show Americans that we will rise above the political shots that we take because we're in this serious business for serious challenges that are facing the good American people right now. That's why we're campaigning hard. That's why we're working hard."

Asked if she is going to play Tina Fey, the actress who has been skewering the Alaska governor's debate performances and television interviews, Palin said, "I should. That's a good idea."

She then added: "Oh, I don't know what they have lined up."

Hopefully they'll just let her improvise, on account of she's so doggone good at that and it'll work to shore up the laughs and help her performance with the laughs by shorin' everything up and in addition to health care and laughs, of course comedy also too.

  1. Awww, you're cute.

You're right about Sarah on SNL. I predict McCain will go down a few points for that one.

  2. Lets talk about a fact. Charles Keating was a corporate man who owned among other things a savings and loan – specifically Lincoln Savings and Loan. It seems Mr Keating swindled millions from the institution's depositors and investors and when caught, enlisted the help of some of his best political pals to help bail him out. One of those friends was John McCain (a friend that Keating would refer to as a wimp). The idea was that Keating and four others would get the feds off his back – no doubt in exchange for the generous contributions made to political campaigns. Ultimately, Keating went to prison and McCain's and the other four's role in helping him out were swept under the rug. None-the-less, it shows what kind of character McCain has and who his friends are. If Palin and McCain wish to assasinate a man's character, they better make sure they step out of the glass house they are standing in before throwing stones!

  3. Kevin,

I think the difference is McCain was extremely repentant for that lapse in judgement whereas Obama shrugs off his association to Ayers, an unrepentant violent extremist. On the other hand, in both cases, it does speak to judgement.

One thing I think it might be good to ask ourselves is whether any of us have made errors in judgement. I think we expect more perfection from either of these people than is realistic. Just trying to crucify the one we are against all the time? Do you suppose it really has to be like that? I get sick of it don't you?

Hey, how much would you pay to see McCain and Obama in a pie fight? I'd give anything to see that! I really liked that comedy thing they did the other night. It just made me feel better to see them in a different light. They were both pretty funny. I think we should more of that kind of thing during campaigns.

  4. CUBE@ They stole my screen name on SNL too? I missed it.

  5. Hilo08,
I was reading the commentary here and thought it was more interesting than SNL. That and a wedding proposal. Also, I think the symbol "@" should be removed from our computer jargon. I'm pro-comma now. Please join the comma revolution. I am also starting a coalition banning smiley faces. Finally, if people really are laughing out loud or their asses fall off, they must somehow prove it.

  6. Hell yes, a wedding proposal is < an SNL skit. But the comma is never far, and truly the only comfort I have in grammar. I only changed the the@ format because…well because I don't know where to go, who to see, yeah
All my friends call me a fool
They say, "let the @ take care of you"
So I try to be hip, think like the crowd
But even the crowd can't help me now, oh-oh-oh

Sorry, three millerlites and I'm practically gubernatorial.

  8. I am starting a movement. Not like the movement I'mafter eating so much during football to clear the way for BOSTON tonight, but a movement against these alleged "hip" symbols we've fallen prey to. Fuck them. Go Sox. Go Poo. (Christ, I think a Goodyear just rolled out)

  9. Just a minute – just a minute. Now, hold on, Mr. Potter. You're right when you say my father was no businessman. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap, penny-ante Building and Loan, I'll never know. But neither you nor anyone else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was – why, in the twenty-five years since he and Uncle Billy started this thing, he never once thought of himself. Isn't that right, Uncle Billy? He didn't save enough money to send Harry to school, let alone me. But he did help a few people get out of your slums, Mr. Potter, and what's wrong with that? Why – here, you're all businessmen here. Doesn't it make them better citizens? Doesn't it make them better customers? You – you said – what'd you say a minute ago? They had to wait and save their money before they even ought to think of a decent home. Wait? Wait for what? Until their children grow up and leave them? Until they're so old and broken down that they… Do you know how long it takes a working man to save five thousand dollars? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about… they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be.
