The Daily Show: The Candidates' Gaffe-In
The election is close and the gaffes keep coming. Joe Biden says the wrong thing at a closed-door fundraiser, while Sarah Palin and John McCain slip up in front of the cameras.
Who had the most legendary gaffe?
PERMALINK:

I am really disappointed by some of the POW bashing on here. I'm not going to vote for the guy and I may not agree that his policies are what is best for the country but he is still a hero in my book…. Is anyone else sickened by the lack of transperancy in this whole system. Watching the debates and all the discourse throughout the election what seems most apparent to me is that no one can seem to answer a strait question. I believe it was the second debate someone asked if Obama thought that it was unethical for people to have to pay for health care…. his response… I guess you couldn't call what these candidates say a response because it would have to have some relation to the actual questionits more like a timed monolog…. like pavlovs dogs ring a bell if you wanna hear the policy on iraq…. anyway his monolog just like both candidates monologs to any real question was to outline his policy on health care. I would rather get punched in the face than hear one more outline of either candidates policy on anything…. I have already heard it twenty times… I want to know what you think… if you think… what kind of person you are….. I wanna know that you can answer a tough question…. that you are not a afraid to deal with tough questions… even if that means saying "I don't know." I want more transperancy in my government…. less spin. God forbid they have to answer a question with an answer with substance. Then people might stop seeing things as black and white, republican and democrat, good and evil, why see the candidates as human when I can slap some bumpersticker policy on them to dehumanize them to the point of 5yrs in a POW camp being a joke. I guess maybe I am wrong in someway the candidates do it to themselves by not responding in real ways…. but american is responsible to for accepting it that way…. black & white makes it alot easier there are no real questions involved.
@disenchantedamerica WOW. You're completely illiterate! No wonder…takes all kinds, I guess.
"The Borgen Project has some good info on the cost of addressing global poverty.
$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.
$540 billion: Annual U.S. Defense Budget."
he is not illiterate.. he is typing a comment, not writing an english paper… why don't you listen to what he has to say, instead of critisizing his writing.. People, look it is not about whether we like a candidate or not… It is about what they stand for… John Mcain is a hero in my book, but not the person I agree with on the issues. Obama, is a good person, but that does not mean you need to vote for him.. But for the sake of being responsible, we need not challenge there person. I think they have proved themselves enough… 5 years in a POW camp, is more suffering than any of you who mock him, can even dream about.
Very long posts are more difficult to read when they contain numerous errors in spelling and usage. That's all.

Most legendary gaffe? Easy, John McCain when he announced who his running mate was.
I am so tired of people giving John McCain so much political credit because he was a POW. Being a POW doesn't mean you're a good person, a smart person, or anything. Believe me, there are plenty of A-holes in the military. What do you expect? You basically only have to pass a physical to join. John McCain was a soldier-and a damn good one as far as I've read but nevertheless he was following orders-that was his job. Yes, it is commendable that he survived being a POW, but if that qualified him to be president, then there are a lot of soldiers who were POW's-should we just let them all be President of the United States just for that reason? Plus remember, he was caught, he had no choice. Also, John McCain keeps saying that "I've already been tested". When? He has never been President of the United States and therefore has NEVER had to make the decisions and solve the problems of a Commander in Chief. He has absolutely no more experience as President than Barack Obama. But he is just allowed to say whatever and not have to explain it. Lets vote based on intelligence, demeanor, self-control, and good judgement. We can never be absolutely sure what any candidate will do once in office-but we should at least be able to sleep at night knowing that someone intelligent and cool-tempered is working on our behalf.
