Don't Mess with Texas' Belief that Barack Obama is a Muslim
A new poll from the University of Texas shows that John McCain and Republican Senator John Cornyn are favored to win in the Lone Star State.
That's not the interesting part…
[T]he statewide survey of 550 registered voters has one very surprising finding: 23 percent of Texans are convinced that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a Muslim….
The Texas numbers are unusual because most national polls show that just 5 to 10 percent of Americans still believe Obama is a Muslim — less than half the number of Texans who buy into the debunked theories.
Well, you know what they say: everything's bigger in Texas.
Including, apparently, the delicious pitchers of Fox News Kool-Aid.

Don't mess with Texas!
(It's not nice to make fun of retards)
Dear Mary P-S,
I have missed Molly Ivins since McCain revealed his VP choice. What delicious fun she would have had with Palin. Molly did not suffer fools gladly (although after reading her columns, the rest of us did!).
When I was growing up, we were taught to take a certain degree of pride in the state of Texas, but more and more often I find myself genuinely ashamed of my fellow Texans.
My mother went to visit her sisters in rural east Texas last week. While she was there, she challenged someone's statement that Obama was a muslim. She received a rude and aggressive response, and became so upset that she chose to leave the room. I really wish I had been there at the time, and I'm getting pretty pissed just writing about it.
I'm done defending these people. Frankly, they can take their racist, ignorant, macho, liberal-hating attitude and shove up straight up their ass. We've got a fucking con-man for a governor, a complete asshole about to be re-elected to the Senate, and a state school board packed with homophobic creationists, and I'm absolutely fucking sick of it. The entire country is laughing at us, and I don't blame them. We have to stop living in the dark ages, and the first step is to vote out some of these asshat conservatives.
Please don't hate on all Texans – not all of us are igoramuses. I live in Dallas, and I've put up with much conservative malarky during this election.
It was actually very empowering when I went to my Dallas primaries and saw so many Democrats in my district, who waited around and voted in the caucases. There are liberals in Texas, you just have to look hard. We're the ones that go to Spiral Diner and shop at Whole Foods and Green Living, and dare to ride our bicycles for transportation. And Austin is actually quite liberal, as are a large part of the big cities.
Well, what did you expect ? Their smartest citizen is in the White House.
Going from Ann Richards to G.W. is like having sex with a beautiful supermodel and then casting her aside for some leper with herpes.
Btw, it turns out that Reverend Wright is supposedly the other anti-semite besides Khalidi that Barack hung around with. See? I knew it. I knew they were going to go after him.
OK. We have the race card, the gender card, make way for the "Jew card." I think McCain has played his entire hand now.
Crazy old bastard.
I live in Austin, where we affectionately call Travis County the "Blueberry in a sea of Tomato Soup". We are strong Democratic Obama supporters. Even though the rest of rural and backward Texas cities (Dallas, Houston) seem to be stuck in the middle ages.
It will take the next generation to turn it around, as long as they don't "sell out" like the baby boomers did.
Yes, most Texans are morons but cut a little slack to Austin and Dallas. Here we not only know Obama is a Christian, he will win both cities by double-digits on Tuesday. Both Dallas and Austin voted for Kerry in 04 so we'll definitely vote Obama this year. I already did along with most of my Dallas (Oak Cliff) neighbors.
And yes it does get tiring putting up with the hard-core rightwing Bush Lovers. They're clueless and apparently always will be…
Where are Molly and the ya ya Sisters when we need them?
I live in Austin and Dethanos has pretty much expressed my feelings.
Today I went to Zilker park and, along with other Obama supporters, made phone calls to North Carolina. I decided if I can't rely on my own state, at least I'll call North Carolina and hope they bring this election home for OBAMA.
Austin is about the only cool place to live in Texas, and of course
we are all for OBAMA here!
