Election Day

We know that November 3, 2009 isn't a real Election Day. But still, we can all pretend. Right? Take a look at these six elections and let us know how much you care.

Sarah Palin Gives Alaskans Oil Money to Help Fight Socialism

POSTED BY: Mary Phillips-Sandy

The McCain-Palin-Wurzelbacher ticket has been hammering away at their claim that Barack Obama's tax plans amount to "spreading the wealth," which is about as un-American as you can get without actually being in Red Square.

Perhaps Comrade Obama could take a lesson from Governor Sarah Palin, who understands that the government should never, ever raise taxes or spread the wealth.

It should just sit back and let the free market do its thing and, um, dispense the lucre

In Alaska, where Palin is governor, natural resources are state-owned, and Alaska residents receive yearly dividend checks from a $30 billion state account built largely from oil royalties….

When home fuel and gas costs soared this year, Palin raised taxes on oil companies and used some of the money to boost residents' checks by $1,200. Every eligible man, woman and child got a record $3,269 this fall.

Even the grammar-challenged Governor knows there's word for that kind of redistributive policy.

Starts with S.

Four syllables.

That's right: super-duper!

  1. You see there's a very simple explanati–DRILL BABY DRILL! DRILL BABY DRILL!

  2. It's only socialism if it happens outside of the REAL America

by Matt October 31st at 3:46PM
  3. The explanation is rather simple. The reason why Alaska taking royalties from American companies isn't socialism is because Obama knows a nameless anti-Semitic.

  4. During the oil crisis of 2007, Palin fought to raise taxes on oil companies. As fuel prices skyrocketed in the lower 49 states, Palin complained that her state wasn't getting its share of the windfall. She successfully pushed for a law that raised taxes on oil profits. The increase amounted to an estimated $1.6-billion annually more for the state: double the amount it received the year before. Then she gave the money to the people.

It’s true: we've already checked her claim that she sent "a large share of that revenue directly back to the people of Alaska."

On Aug. 7, 2008, the Alaska Legislature approved a measure she promoted. The administration of Alaska's governor Sarah Palin now gives $1,200 to every single Alaskan. This comes to about $741-million for state residents. In addition, each resident will receive an annual dividend of $2,000 from an oil-wealth savings account. That comes to about $741-million for state residents

For a family of 7 (Gov. Palin has 7 members in her family) that means an additional $22,400.00 in income sent from the state of Alaska. WOW, who needs a job! Back to the trailer, Billy Bob!

That's a fancy way of describing wealth redistribution, i.e., downright communism. And that is real change we can believe in. Will she do the same for the Lower 49 states?

In August 2008, a few weeks before being nominated for vice president, Sarah Palin said in an interview with Philip Gourevitch that Alaska is "set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs."

Every eligible man, woman and child got a record $3,269 this fall.

Well, in my state I want to know why Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't got those big fact checks from the oil companies for every citizen of California. What's wrong with him? Common Arnie, get us on that gravy train, too.

  5. The most pathetic thing about these people supporting McCain, like Joe the non-tax payer, is the republican agenda has been raping them financially for year, yet they still vote for their own financial demise. Good grief, grow a brain if you weren't born with one.

Banks owe billions to executives (search the Wall St. Journal todays article is revealing).

Not only are executives receiving these outlandish salaries, but almost all of them will escape paying taxes on any of their pay.

Case in point, Bill Gates: cashed out of Microsoft and paid zero taxes on $50 billion. To add insult to injury for tax payers, Mr. Gates actually got back $6 million from the government.

See, "Free Lunch" by David J. Johnston, who explains clearly in laymen terms how executives have avoided taxes for 27 years beginning in 1981.

The massive accumulation of wealth in the "flood (of wealth) up economy" makes a joke of the notion of "trickle down" ideas of Reagodumbics.

Since 1970 the average American pay has (adjusted for inflation, in today's dollars) increased from $34,000 to 37,000.

    1968
    Highest-Paid Executive:
    James M. Roche
    Chairman, General Motors
    $795,000
    Average Worker Pay: $5,602

    1998
    Highest-Paid Executive:
    Michael Eisner
    CEO, Walt Disney.
    $575,000 000.00
    Average Worker Pay: $22,976

From Business Week, the above stats compare 1968 to 1998: the average worker earned $5600 and the increase to the 1998 level is 393%: however, during the same period, the highest executive pay increased by 72,327%.

When I left Bear Stearns in 1995, Ace Greenberg earned $15 million a year (salary). In 2000, Jim Cayne earned $100 million– that's only 5 years later. And he bankrupted the company! Well, after making over a billion dollars for himself. So does he really care? No. He's sitting in Europe laughing his bottom off.

The American people are being robbed by Republicans and Democrats alike.

PS Joe the Plumber is an ignorant a$$.

  8. Dear Mary Politically-Correct-Hyphenated-Last-Name,

    My dear ignorant comtard,

Sarcasm only works as a comic device if you know what the hell you're talking about. Unfortunately, you dont, and now just look like an idiot.

Let me make it simple for you, since that's the only way liberals ever understand anything… The Alaskan people own the mineral rights to everything under the ground in Alaska. Leasing that land to oil companies and then paying the revenue to the owners of the leased property is not socialism.

Socialism is when you take money from someone who owns it and give it to someone who DOESNT. Like Obama wants to do.

I now return you to your previously scheduled ignorant ranting.

by Ignorance Fits You November 4th at 2:50AM
  9. Alaskans do not "own" everything on, over, or under the ground; oil, minerals, natural gas usage is applied for from the state but I do think it's federally supervised. The National Parks and the State parks co-operate (supposedly) with the wilds being protected for all of us. This is not anything more than the consensus of the union. What was not the consensus was the way the last administrations set-up a economic strategy that ripped off us and our children all for a finite amount of money that took 4 generations to make-after these same greedy, money now and not for the long run fools ATM'd it.
