Ted Stevens and Don Young Still Somehow Lead In Alaska

POSTED BY: Dylan and Ethan Ris

You'd think that being tied to convicted felon lobbyists would be political suicide in today's climate.  And you'd certainly think that being a convicted felon yourself would be even worse.  But in Alaska, there may be one sin that trumps both of those…

Being a Democrat.

What we're getting at is that somehow GOP Rep. Don Young (he of the Jack Abramoff affiliations) and Sen. Ted Stevens (he of the seven felony convictions) continue to lead in election returns as we approach 5 a.m. in the East.

What's wrong with Democrats, Alaska?  Was the last one you sent to Washington such a disaster that you're now morally opposed to ever doing it again?  Honestly, how bad could it have been under that last Democrat, who was… let's see here…

Mike Gravel???

Alright, maybe you have a point there, Alaska.

  1. When I saw Stevens leading, I felt I was back in India where I grew up. Politicians with serious criminal convictions and the people in their tribalism would ignore everything, and vote for the criminals. This is exactly what I felt about Alaskans who voted for Ted Stevens. Probably they are too ignorant to realize that he will not have any position of power in Senate to bring back the booty. Moreover if he kicked out of the senate, they will have one of Sarah Palin's classmates as the next senator.

  2. Raven, you have GOT to be kidding me!? Tony Knowles? I can't believe the guy isnt the president by now. When I was growing up in Alaska he was the mayor, I think all you have to do is look at pictures of 4th ave before and after to tell what kind of guy he is. Wall to wall pawn shops and bars turned into widened sidewalks with beautiful street lights, hanging plants, parks etc…. You were probably one of he people who felt that was pure corruption because he happened to own a coffee shop on that street, pu-lease! with 3 million 'outsiders' coming to the state through THAT street, it was a total embarrasement before he fixed it. And yet, you think a felon who has brought shame on my hometown of Girdwood should have a seat in the US Senate?

    WOW.

  3. Compare Ted Stevens and Don Young to Tony Knowles. Learn more about Begich, as much as Alaskans (and especially Anchorage residents) know about him. Get to know Steven Branchflower and Hollis French.
Then come talking to us about Democrats…
We have never had a good experience with them. Never.

  4. I am officially joining the Alaskan Independence Party! Get them away from us!

  5. Can you say the same about Louisiana? Just as bad there on the Dem side.

  6. Mike Gravel may not be much, but he would be a vast improvement over those two. At least he never took money and gifts from corrupt lobbyists, nor has he ever used the phrase "internet tubes."

  7. More than anything else this points out the current state of Alaska politics and the sewer that would spawn a Sarah Palin. This is a level of political corruption that would offend even Louisiana voters. Alaska is the new Louisiana politically.
