Election Day

We know that November 3, 2009 isn't a real Election Day. But still, we can all pretend. Right? Take a look at these six elections and let us know how much you care.

John McCain's Concession Speech: Redux

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

Over on Cracked, Michael Swaim is understandably upset that John McCain was somehow allowed to make one gracious concession speech after weeks and weeks of calling Barack Obama a terrorist and now he's getting a pass from most people in the press. So…

"In order to protect the innocence of the American public, I've taken it upon myself to make McCains concession speech as vitriolic and hate-filled as the months leading up to it were. Do us both a favor, and watch this video over and over until it has supplanted all memories of the actual speech."

  1. You people are horrible.
McCain told his campaign not to use Jeremiah Wright or anything related to Obama's family And ran what was arguably the nicest campaign run by any Republican, ever. Obama ran more freakin negative ads… yet McCain is viewed this way by you people.
Geez… try and see the world in a little less black and white…
Obama is not the Messiah and McCain is not the devil

  2. The nicest campaign ever run by a Republican—–boy, talk about lowering your standards. He used every smear tactic he could, just like they always do, only this time it didn't work because Democrats fought back. Finally the Republicans shot themselves in the foot and the foot was in their mouths.

  3. You idiots truely do not understand a thing about politics and why one votes for a president. Obama by NO standards has enough experience to a country! please contact me next time you or a family member takes ill so that I can treat them ,even though I am not a doctor. but i have raised 3 children through many illnesses so well thats the perfect equivelant. I along with many others feel betrayed by the ignorance of so many in this country. We should have a test to give people the right to vote!!! we need one for hunting, driving, etc.. this was the record breaking year for voters,?? why was that because of his color, hollywood/media, & ignorant people such as yourselves!!!! mark my words you all will remmember the mistake you made in baking that inexperienced halfbreed when he does nothing he promised or even worse!! enjoy YOUR new president people!!!!haha

  6. Laura,

I too wish there was a test for voting as then maybe it'd actually keep Condescending Racist Bigots like you from voting.

He's not My president, he's Our President. Suck it up. If I could take eight years of the Bush the village idiot, you can handle 4-8 of Obama. Who knows, maybe if you open you eyes a little and stop seeing the anti-christ you'll be mildly surprised. But maybe I'm asking too much.

    To be more on topic:
I thought McCain's original speech was rather pleasant and I applauded his return to being a better person than his campaign turned him into. This edit was funny, but like most rational people I'm not taking it seriously.

  8. Calling people idiots is real classy. So glad you thought of a good putdown. But are you sure we are not all terrorists loving imbeciles, Obama kissing fools, latte drinking elitists, baby killers, anti-hunting NRA hating dumbasses or ignorant socialist liberals? Just wanted to help you spread the hate. Enoy OUR new president, you betcha!!!

  9. I was impressed with how gracious McCain was, in his concession speech. Got to give him credit for that. For the first time, in his campaign, he didn't seem to be angry, or pandering. He almost seemed relieved. Maybe he is. He seemed so uncomfortable, sitting atop the elephant and riding the wave of religious extremism and racism to the finish line.

Let's face it, the Republican Party has been hijacked by the fringe religious right. With the Neo Cons, gone are the old guard Republican ideals of fiscal responsibility, small govt., and butting out of people's lives.

Today's Republican party is more of a Church Lady Nanny State, telling people what to do with their life, who they can marry, what to do with their bodies, what kind of medicine or science they are allowed to study, and what to believe in.

Bush created the biggest govt. in history, biggest spending, and if Palin had her way, kids in school would be taught that the earth is only 6000 years old.

Anyway, McCain seemed like the old McCain again. He seemed sincere, and he seemed humbled. If this had been the man running (and if he'd have had a competent running mate), he probably could have had a chance at winning.

The Palin pick was the biggest blunder of his career. He may have solidified his religious right base, but he sent independents and Republicans who give a damn about national security and foreign policy, not to mention those who believe in personal liberty, packing.

If he'd picked a Colin Powell, or a Condi, he would have had it in the bag. For many hawkish independent voters, like my dad, Palin was an insult.

Obama is very smart, and a lot more centrist than people think, and I think he'll surround himself with smart and competent people.

I hear some right wingers say that he's not their president. Maybe they don't understand the ideals this country was founded on. Democracy, and the voice of the people. Not to mention the peaceful transfer of power.

  10. Noam,
Which election were YOU watching? McCain's ads were 100 percent negative, as were all his hate-bating speeches, as were the hate-mongering rallies Caribou Barbie ran. McCain didn't have a thing to stand on except his awful Vietnam experience, so he HAD to go negative. What was he going to campain on – "I love and support 90 percent of what W did???!! I picked an unvetted journalism major from Alaska who can't speak proper English?" Obama told us over and over what he was going to do, in great detail. I heard him speak at rallies twice and never did he call McCain a terrorist or a baby killer or a (fill in a religious group to persecute here) or hammer the Keating Five debacle, or whatever. He only said that McPain supported George W 90 percent of the time, which was uh, true. In Pittsburgh, when the crowd boo-ed the mention of McPain, Obama said, "Don't boo, just vote!" And so we did. I look forward to watching an intelligent, articulate, sophisticated non-frat-boy president run this country. Go play on FoxNews.BS
