What About Joe Biden?

POSTED BY: Gonzalo Cordova

For the past few days, when the media hasn't been covering the Obamas' puppy decisions, it's been talking about the Palins' return to the country of Alaska. Or is it a continent? I always get those confused.

But what of Joe Biden? In an Obama administration, how will Joe bide(n) his time?

…Democratic insiders say the appointment of tough-guy Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff — and the administration's need to forge a governing coalition that includes some Republicans — has brought Biden's upcoming role more clearly into focus: He'll play the good cop.

Does this mean Obama will play the curmudgeonly yet ultimately harmless police chief? "You guys leave a lot of mayhem, but by God, you get the legislation that won't affect anyone for years to come done."

So what exactly does the role of "good cop" entail?

"Every major decision he'll be making, I'll be sitting in the room to give my best advice," Biden said in the vice presidential debate.

So he just gives advice? I thought he would be in charge of the U.S. Senate. I distinctly remember someone saying they would get in there to enact some really good policy changes… Who was it that said that? Oh well, I'm sure it doesn't matter anymore.

So now that Joe's role in the White House is settled, one question still stands. How will the public abide(n) Joe Biden?

"As a comedian," NBC's Jay Leno echoed to his "Tonight Show" audience, "I'm going to miss President Bush. Barack Obama is not easy to do jokes about. He doesn't give you a lot to go on. See, this is why God gave us (Vice-President-elect) Joe Biden…"

As a viewer of late night TV, it's not easy to laugh at jokes from the "Tonight Show." See, this is why God gave us Conan O'Brien.

What am I making fun of Leno for? I just made two bide(n) puns in one article alone. Regardless, on behalf of lazy comedy writers everywhere, I just want to say to Barack Obama…

THANK YOU!

Inevitably Obama will make flubs, for despite all claims to the contrary, he *is* only human. And they make fun of a lot more things than Bush. Like Congress (all parties) and 24-hour cable news shows (all channels). No, the real challenge will be not having the idiocy of the campaign to cover. No more stupid debates, awkward endorsements, half-hour political infomercials, and Sarah Palin to make fun of. :'(

  3. I disagree IowaGrad. The funniest thing about Obama is that his ears stick out – as in "I just flew into Chicago and boy are my ears tired."

Thank you. I will be here all week. Try the veal.

  5. books nobody has ever heard of…? dude, if they're on the bestseller's list, that means people are reading them…

the funniest thing so far about Barack Obama has been the hype. I'm sure other quirks will show up as the presidency goes on. Meanwhile, unsubstantiated rumors about his supposed ties to shady figures aren't funny, they're offensive and slanderous.

I will never understand this flawless perception of Obama. To many of us he has more questionable associations than many of us can remember any president having. Aires, Wright, Acorn, that uncle in Hawaii, that video the L.A. Times would not release. Seems they could easily go 4 years joking about his ability to dodge these numerous allogations. Would be easy to do skits about him paying off the media for continued support. Mostly with money from Acorn and "MoveOn.org". Will also be easy to make skits about him being Pelosi's lil pet where she will threaten to cut him off. :) Not to mention skits based on how he made millions of dollars selling books nobody has ever heard of, lol.
