John Kerry "Crushed" By Obama Snub

POSTED BY: Ethan Ris

John Kerry's had a bad four years.  First, he embarrassingly lost his race for the presidency to a man who would set records for being hated by Americans.  He nearly doomed the Democrats' chances of gains in the 2006 midterm elections by loudly insulting American troops.  Then his beloved France lost the World Cup to the Italians.

Now the news has come that Barack Obama has tapped Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State, dashing Kerry's dreams of having some sort of relevance…

Democrats say he made no secret of his Foggy Bottom aspirations. “He’s crushed,” said one Senate aide. Kerry would have been a fine pick, sources say, but Obama apparently had his eye on Hillary Clinton since the early fall. He does get an impressive consolation prize: the chairmanship of the Foreign Relations Committee vacated by Joe Biden.

Well, at least Kerry will get to bang a gavel.  And this will give him time to devote to some of his favorite activities, like windsurfing, heli-skiing, and cheese-eating.

And sobbing.

  1. The media is purposely driving these wrong ideas about Senator Kerry and I think it is being done on purpose to make other people look good. Maybe the senator did want the spot of SOS, but I bet only because he thought he could us it to make America safer and more well respected in the world. And, he is more than qualified for it. Then again, this is a man who- contray to what the press likes to report- a leader and he may have felt uncomfortable having to take orders from Obama. I have no way of knowing what Kerry's feeling were about this position, but I think Obama is a real heel not to have at least let it leak that he had spoken with him or even that Kerry did not express any interest in the cabinet position from the beginning.
As for Hillary Clinton, she is a BAD choice for this positon and Obama will regret asking her. In fact, I think he should have done all he could to get Kerry to take on this position. And, I would bet she didn't even want or consider it until she thought Kerry and Richardson were after it. And, I would also go so far as to suggest these latest attacks and bashings about Kerry are being done in part by Clinton followers and media types that think it is just grand that the Clinton's are back in power thanks to Obama. One, last thing, I have never regretted supporting Senator Kerry- he has never let me down, however, I am regretting my vote for Obama- who seem to think change is back to the furture with the Clintons.

  2. Wiska, Yeah all of those points absolutely well taken. I just have one thing to say. I believe that Hillary will do a fine job, too. Oh and true, there was no need for Obama to appease Hillary's female supporters. But boy, isn't it nice to say "Thank you!"

Obammagrama said: "James801 –> how did Kerry's email list "get Obama elected" when it didn't get KERRY elected ?"

Ah, well, Kerry had built it some more since 2004. Besides, He only just lost to Bush, and then agaiun, Obama made use of the list in ways that Kerry didn't. Even so, without Kerry, Obama could not have raised as much campaign cash as he did or mobilized quite as many supporters.

  3. "I am regretting my vote for Obama- who seem to think change is back to the furture with the Clintons."

Awww, don't be like that. GIve the man and yourself a chance. He hasn't even been sworn in yet.

Here's the way I look at it. A symphony is only as a good as the conductor of the orchestra that produces it. A great conductor is able to produce beautiful melodies from the same players that produced discordant sounds under a bad one.

Likewise a good amdinistration is only as good as its president. It doesn't matter in the end who is SoS. What matters is the synergy Obama will succeed in generating between himself and all of his team members, and the team members among themselves.

There's no question that Hillary is a highly intelligent and capable woman. Given the right kind of support and encouragement, she is sure to shine. I believe that Obama, natural born leader that he is, is the guy to do that for her.

  4. You don't understand- it is the slight of Kerry by choosing Clinton that is appauling to me even more than him being overlooked. Why does this woman deserve anything? She had a chance and didn't make it out of the primaries even with her husband cloute and the Democratic establishment supporting her. I will say it again, she will never do as fine a job as Kerry would and she will never do a good job except if it benefits herself. I no long trust Obama because if there is one thing that you should never turn away from it is those who are loyal to you. He sold out and he is not an honorable man. I don't by his BS about change and I don't think he is a visionary with bold ideas. He is a phony. Oh, and as for Obama shaping and molding Hillary- give me a break- no one molds and shapes Hillary. Obama doesn't even know what he is doing on foreign policy and you think he is going to be able to mold and shape her.LOL.

  5. Obama could care less who is Secretary of State. He only cares about redistributing wealth here in the U.S. Eric Holder as AG is taking the most important position in Obamas mind. Holder will blackmail Corporate America over and over again to increase Affrimative Action programs and reverse racism in the U.S. will get even worse. Of course, all the Obama supporters who are filled up with White Guilt because of their Judeo-Christian upbringings couldn't see the truth if you painted a picture for them. Obama will let GM go into managed bankruptcy and have all those workers lose their jobs because most of them are White Christians. Obamas whole agenda is to simply redistribute Wealth away from White Christians and to ANYONE else – blacks, asians, latinos, etc.

  6. New word: Clinton chose herself & is jammin' Obama. I don't think it will work.

by obamagramma November 26th at 3:01AM
  7. Nothing the Clinton's do to grab at power surprises me. I may get outraged over it and mad they get away with these types of moves over and over again- but her doing this doesn't surprise me. I think it was a spiteful move to elbow out Kerry and Richardson who opposed her in the primaries. I am disapoint too, because I thought we would move on and away from the Clintons' but instead we get to repeatedly hear the media fawn over her and Bill. Oh, gosh, four years of this. Tell me again why I voted for Obama?

    by karman2 November 26th at 11:53PM
  8. Some of these comments are the most idiotic things ive ever heard. The Clintons are international celebrities who are respected and liked around the world. The only person better qualified than Hilary is Bill. These comments about Obama's redistribution of wealth are ridiculous. Just because he wants to lower middle class taxes (which are way too high in proportion to our income) makes him a socialist? The republicans give huge tax breaks to the extremely wealthy and tax the shit out of us. How is giving a tax breaks redistributing wealth? tell me that. You still have to work hard for your money he is just letting you keep more than you would under the oppresive republic tax codes. The republicans want the middle class to stay down they should be hung for treason. The middle class people who support republicans are shooting themselves in the foot because they are too ignorant to look past the color of a mans skin. You hicks make me laugh and have no ideas on your own you just regurgitate something someone else says and it completely false do some research on your own and formulate your own opion sheep.

  9. Hey folks ! Relax! John Kerry is going to be the next Ambassador to the Holy See, (The Vatican). So all will be as good for America as Sarah Palin and the GOPs' credit card at Maceys.

by flasunbum November 28th at 6:29PM
  10. Senator Kerry would make a fine Ambassador – even to the Holy See, but his talents would be wasted there. With what is going on in India and Pakistan, he would be of better use as SOS. But, were stuck with H. Clinton who has a name for herself, but not that much meat behind it. Oh, well we will see. She did think she could be president so time will tell. Only thing is she will be learning on the job and Kerry already knows his stuff.
