The Daily Show's Very Best of Sarah Palin

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

Feeling nostalgic for the heady days of "Oh my God, is that crazy bitch really going to govern all of us one day?"

Yeah… Me too…

Well, this compilation of the Daily Show's best Sarah "Queen of the Senate" Palin moments might not bring her back, but it will remind you of just how nice it is to be on this side of November 4th.

  1. Happy Holidays! This always puts me in a better mood:

  2. NoLongerDesparate & NoZone: I'm not saying you shouldn't be allowed to make stupid comments. I'm just exercising my free speech rights by pointing out how childish and petty you a-holes are acting.

  3. Jim: And name-calling isn't childish and petty? Not doing a bit of projecting, are you?

  4. NoLongerDesparate: Okay, so I'm a hypocrite. But I'd rather be a hypocrite than a mindless partisan sheep like you and nearly everyone else who posts here… and who blogs here (That's right DiClaudio, I'm talking to you and the other hacks that post these lame articles!)

  5. I would not call it irony, rather, stupidity, for someone to call others partisan sheep when devout Libertarians spewing bile are grazing the field just the same.

Anyone who joins a political party is quite obviously a drone. Partisan politics reek of groupthink for mindless clods. Unless of course, you are a member of the Libertarian Party — where consistency is the name of the game.

Out of curiosity, how can one even truly be a Libertarian and form a political party? Don't tread on me… us… WTF?

Libertarianism may have some sound principles (like ridding society paternalistic laws and whatnot); it's too bad forming a party creates an illogical paradox. That's why Rupert Paul is a Republican.

It seems to me like some Libertarians are the genital warts on the pricks of their party leaders. For example, Bob Barr.

  6. Wow, I'm surprised by how this thread has progressed. I, for one, have nothing against Sarah Palin personally–she seems like a nice individual who has real political sense (you can't say she got elected to be governor of Alaska based solely on looks alone, although, as in many other areas besides politics, looks don't hurt if you have them). The only reason why this clip is hilarious for me is because it really highlights 1) how inexperienced she really was on a national and international policy level given the position she was running for and 2) the mental acrobatics some Republicans did trying to justify her nomination despite that. But personally attacking her doesn't bring me any joy (as a woman, the fact that they made a porn about her makes me feel pretty uncomfortable).

Palin's ideological stance on almost every issue is opposite to mine, and that's why I feel justified in criticizing her. It has nothing to do with party politics, though I take the point that even a lot of Democrats I know can't articulate a clear reason why they don't like Bush or Palin, just as the Republicans in this clip couldn't articulate a good reason why Palin should have been vice president. But just because I vote along party lines doesn't mean I'm a "partisan hack"–there are issues that I care deeply about it and just so happens that, in America's two-party system, Democrats are my best bet in terms of translating my values into policies that impact people's lives. There may be candidates further to the left that better embody all of my beliefs, but I don't see any point in voting for them if they don't have an actual shot at getting elected. Making a stand with your vote is one thing, but there are serious problems that need to be addressed, and in situations with real stakes involved (how long I'll be paying off my college loans, for example), I think it's more important to be pragmatic.

Yes, everyone should think more critically about the people and stances they endorse, and come up with better reasons to like or dislike a candidate besides the fact that they're black or folksy or whatever superficial. But I would also say that to simply criticize those of us who partake in the two-party system is silly… It's like saying, "Well, I need to eat, but you only have chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and I don't like either one of those flavors, so I'll just starve to death." Voting is the lifeblood of democracy… I don't see any point throwing my vote away just because neither party smells like roses.

  7. Well said, Leigh. As for Sarah Palin, her political positions, such that she is able to articulate them without any aid, are not what scares me half so much as the woman herself. There is considerable evidence to suggest that she has narcissistic personality disorder. The DSM used to classify that sort of thing broadly as sociopathy. That's what really scares me about her. I would not look forward to a sociopath as president. If ridicule keeps her out of national office, then it serves a useful function.

Is that thoughtful and non-partisan enough, Jim?

  10. It would be intresting to have a Libertarian President in 2012. How about Gary Johnson and Mike Gravel? They could run as a republican/democrat and then switch.
