GOP Star Bobby Jindal Is Already Bombing in Iowa

POSTED BY: Mary Phillips-Sandy

As the GOP casts around for a recovery plan, conservative Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal has emerged as a likely frontrunner for 2012.

He's young, he's a minority, and he isn't a hockey mom. All excellent qualifications to carry the Republican standard in four years. But, this weekend, Jindal's closely-watched debut in Iowa was an unqualified disaster.

In his speech to the Iowa Family Policy Center, dude just blew it

Rather than emphasizing traditional themes that motivate social conservatives, such as opposition to abortion and gay marriage, Jindal talked about his efforts as governor to impose harsher penalties on child sex offenders and his efforts as a parent to keep his young children shielded from the coarser elements of modern culture.

Doesn't Bobby Jindal know anything about politics? "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," now, that's a rallying cry. It reminds everybody that the homosexuals want to destroy your marriage by registering for abortions at Saks. Plus it rhymes! This is very important, for chanting purposes.

"Harsher legal penalties for convicted child sex offenders," that's not catchy at all. If this is the best the Republicans can come up with, they really are in trouble.

  2. Toughness on crime? "Think of the children"?! My goodness… you start throwing around conservative buzzvalues like that and you just might win an election.

Or maybe that only happens here in Canada. I could be wrong.

  3. bearness,
I know he's of Indian descent. Bad impression of woman with bad hair asking McCain similar question about Obama. Hence the quotation marks. Oh well.

  4. Sorry. In that case, "He's not Arab. He's a good family man."

  5. now, if Bobby can go for the 1-2 punch and remind them of the issue (avoiding that it was proven to be an error) that Obama wanted to teach kids sex ed – 2012 here he comes.

  6. No worries. I'll leave the race baiting against Jindal for Palin in 2012.

  7. Jindal has time. He's just practicing for 2016.

  8. Bobby aint running in 2012. He's running in 2016.

He is of east indian descent but – thoroughly American born/raised/marinated/no-indianness left in him.

He has learnt his lessons from his loss on his first bid for gov that anyone who looks like him will loose in racist America (especially post 911). Subsequently, he got to the grassroots of Louisiana and won the gov election in 2007 (converted the "racists").

He knows that if he wants to be POTUS, he needs to get to the grassroots of the entire country. That will take a looooong time so that "racist" America can get a grip on the real Bobby Jindal. Forget about "racist" America, heck the racist republican party needs to accept him first. So, he is starting now on a campaign to be POTUS in 2016. Hey, Americans will accept a black person as their leader as opposed to a latino, chinese, indian, etc. since all they see is black and white.

Given Obama's breakthrough/unprecedented election as POTUS, Americans will slowly but surely become color blind and hence will simply look for a competent leader when they will elect Bobby Jindal as POTUS in 2016.

  10. I saw an interview with Jindal on Fox, who essentially gave the governor a soap-box to stand on and espouse the GOP doctrine. It was a little disturbing watching Jindal being driven more by ideology rather than rational thinking. Bobby seems to be under the same delusion as GWB, in that the system didn't fail us but rather we failed the system.
