YES, Damon Weaver should host Meet The Press.
Why, you ask?
Because people would WATCH it.
Advertizers, take note:
I have NOT watched Meet The Press since Tim Russert died, because the chair is still empty, regardless of the dork that is squatting in it now.

Come on! Damon Weaver! Please make it happen!

Damon, you, your parents, Pahokee, and all of Florida should be proud of you. You have made your mark already at a still tender young age. I hope and pray that you keep your head on straight and are able to rise above that which hopes to keep you down. Keep looking forward, working hard, being persistant, and telling the truth.

By Florida State Prison, near the banks of Lake Okeechobee and endless fields of sugar cane, you can find Muck City. For those who don't know Muck City, it is a very impoverished part of Florida and to make it out of there, you really need to stand out. Damon Weaver clearly does that.

Muck City is known for its unbelievable football from three high schools in close proximity to one another. My tiny white prep school found this out the hard way ages ago when Pahokee spanked us (really, demolished us) two years in a row when for some strange reasons we made it into the state playoffs. I'll never forget the bus ride over there. To say it was an awakening for me as to the severe racial disparities in the sheltered life I grew up in would be a gross understatement.

ESPN did a remarkable piece about the area and how the kids chase rabbits in the sugar cane fields as a right of passage. As a kid, I always thought the rabbit chase was urban legend to explain how the Hell those kids ran so damn fast. For such a small area, the amount of professional athletes to come out of there is amazing. The rabbit chase has become Floridian folklore. It's great to see Damon Weaver making his mark and seeing him with Biden, Dwayne Wade, and Sean Marion (Go Heat). His rabbit chase is in a field of dreams most will never get to play on from that area. This boy shouldn't only get to interview Barack, I hope he gets to be on stage for the inauguration. Put him in the cabinet. Hopefully, y'all check out ESPN's piece and know how tough it is to make it out of there. Watching these kids chasing rabbits to chase their dreams really makes one think sometimes. David Gregory has nothing on Damon Weaver.

Finally: a reporter we can trust and admire -- a man cut from the same cloth as Walter Cronkite.

Way to go, Mr. Weaver. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing your reportage on the major networks sometime in the near future.
