Rahm Emanuel's Scandalous, Money-Plagued Past Finally Revealed
I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this here headline in the New York Times: "In Banking, Rahm Emanuel Made Money and Connections."
Shut UP!
Money? And connections? Working at Bruce Wasserstein's fancy investment bank Wasserstein Perella in the early aughts, when it was one of the country's top underwriters of high-yield debt? By what nefarious, nine-fingered means did Rahm Emanuel pull off this stunt, I wonder…
It was Morton L. Janklow, the literary agent for several former presidents, who introduced Mr. Emanuel to Mr. Wasserstein…. Mr. Emanuel met in Mr. Wasserstein in his New York office, where they had a wide-ranging discussion about the future of financial regulation, as well as Mr. Emanuel's plans.
Appalling! He knew a guy who knew a guy who got him a cushy job? This is highly, highly irregular in the merit-based world of finance. Next you're gonna tell me Emanuel used his political connections to land clients, then turned around and took big donations from the banking industry during his run for Congress.
What? He did?
I… I just never would have expected such a thing from a man who stabs tables, threatens prime ministers and mails dead fish to his enemies.
Especially if he got his start in Chicago politics.

@Peter: Hmmm, but wait, WP was quite successful in the underwriting business? Through its Grantchester unit, no? Did I hallucinate? http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_1995_Jan_11/ai_16030757
@obamagramma: And probably the ONLY chief of staff to ever have his own LiveJournal fan clubs, eh?

Questions and links! There you go.
I am so in love with Rahmbo! Best chief of staff pick ever !
Hey, I enjoyed your post, but that firm you mentioned was in no way "one of the nation's top underwriters of high-yield debt." It wasn't even in that business at all. You should make a correction.
Peter
Oh shut up Jim. I'm as far left as they come, and I like a man with rough edges, Rahm does the trick and more. Speak for yourself.
Well, at least unlike most far lefties, you're not bashing Rahm for being Jewish or a supporter of Israel. So I give you some credit there.
