Lincoln Memorable

Since Glenn Beck's 8/28 Rally was such a huge success, does that mean he's now a greater man than Martin Luther King. Or just as great?

Mike Huckabee Will Not Marry Jon Under Any Circumstances

Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee stops by to discuss smaller government and same-sex marriage. He tries to explain why banning gay marriage is different than segregation because it's a choice, but Jon argues religion is far more of a lifestyle choice than homosexuality.

What do you think of Huckabee's position on the issue?

  1. I like Mike Huckabee as a person, but I could never vote for him. Having said that I believe his position is silly. He stated that for over 5,000 years Marriage has been between 1 Man, 1 Woman, that is just not accurate. We know that Homosexuals and Heterosexuals had on going relationships in Ancient Greek. We know that Homosexuality was common in Ancient Egypt, and even recently we have found that Homosexuals even were able to marry in ancient Rome, prior to the Roman Catholic Church.

My question for Huckabee who says Gay Marriage will lead to Polygamy, does that mean he believes that Solomon in the Bible that had over 700 Wives was a immoral man, since apparently he was "redefining Marriage".

  2. Mike Huckabee continues to be the nicest guy in the world that I love to hate. I'd have a beer with the guy, go fishing with the guy. Vote for him? Support his platform? Never. But he's just so darn clean and nice. My son likens him to the terrific next-door neighbor who turns out to be a child molestor.

  4. this is what is wrong with our nation and world…everyone wants to live by their own rule book when the only rule book that we should go by sits on a shelf collecting dust!! if everyone would turn focus to Jesus instead of the imorral things that are taking over our society then we would not have anything to worry about! but then again if all of this nonsense were to cease then what would newspeople have to fill their time? my message to the world…FIND JESUS!!

  5. I salute you, Mr. Stewart, for pointing out the crux of the conservatives' senseless protests against gay marriage: semantics. It's just a WORD. Isn't it better that two people who love each other get married and raise happy, successful children, rather than two unhappy, bitter heterosexuals get married and divorced, and shuttle unhappy, bitter children back and forth between two homes and lives? Why is this so difficult for the conservatives to understand? And if they always get wound up about big government, and keep calling for limited governmental interference in American private lives, why do they think the government ought to mandate who can get married?

  6. This is Theocracy, pure and simple. Christian Theocracy. John made the very TRUE and IMPORTANT statement about the origins and modernity of the the marriage contract.

I have been a fan of your comedy and political satire for years.

After seeing this, I am proud to say that you made a stand for us all and I thank you.

  7. And, I will add, that Huck kept harping on "the voters" who voted for these dictating marriage laws, were tricked, or at least, out here in California, that's how it played out. Out of staters came into our state, to change our state constitution, and did it with misleading ads – the biggest budget in California history, for a state proposition.

The vote was actually – to take AWAY the rights, that gays already had.

The ads on TV – mostly paid for by the Mormon Church in Utah, said our children would be bringing home Adam and Steve books, and being forced to learn about gay marriage in kindergarten.

Talk about your Church and State. Why do they have tax exempt status, if they're going to be in the business of politics now?

  8. Bravo, Stewart, on a job well done, grilling the ever growing Huck about the gay marriage thing. I never saw it that way, that they've been changing the definition of marriage all along. Thank you, for bringing some simple, good logic, to the argument.

Seems the "less govt." mantra doesn't really hold up, when you're talking about the Church Lady Nanny State, who wants to tell you how you can live your life, from what goes on in our ovaries to who you can marry and what kind of education is taught in schools or what kind of cells are deemed worthy to save your life.

Thank you Jon Stewart – yes, let's both sides work together to stamp out abortion and unwanted pregnancy, but unless birth control and education are part of the equation, I don't see how criminalizing women who have abortions, even in cases of rape or incest, solves anything.

And great point, about the financially secure gay parents, giving their kids great lives, in stable, well adjusted homes.

Great show tonight, and last night's rerun kicked ass too. Sam B. and the British Canadian thing was really funny.
