Absolutely true! This decision was made so that Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" audience would have a host who speaks at a grade-level that they could understand and relate to.

You could have saved me a half hour of poking around on the net if you had maybe mentioned 'the third guy — in the hat'

Turns out that was Tom T-Bone Wolk, a long time associate of Hall and Oates, bass bass/guitar player and some time musical director. Call me crazy, but I'll bet that was a big aw sheeat moment when you realized that nobody had mentioned who he was.

I would like to know what happened there. I mean, did he 'crash' the show? From my couch, it looked like a homeless guy had wandered on stage with a guitar and everybody was pretending they couldn't see him…

I watch Fox News in order to be aware of what they are up to. Colmes never played a great role. He simply signed in and signed off each broadcast and allowed Fox to pretend they were "fair and balanced." He was a wimp. If for example the broadcast consisted of 10 minutes of actually air time with Hannity speaking and 10 minutes of Colmes air time, close analysis would reveal Hannity attacking liberals with mostly lies the whole time and Colmes talking about the missing child or wife killer of the day, who is on the show the next day, and perhaps 60 seconds of anti-conservative thought.
He was a joke.

Did Hannity miss Stewart's KO of Tucker Carlson on his *own* show (ie sans writers). That performance showed the mind behind the comedian. The man is smart, and measured–which is tough to be when a comedian. Comedy is about reduction in the same way advertisements rely on stereotypes to sell products. You need to simplify to get the quick reversal for the laugh. Jon Stewart is the only celebrity I've ever seen who clearly demonstrates an informed, even-handed intelligence behind the "persona" that I could see actually entering politics. I mean besides Fred Grandy….

I have never willingly watched Fox anything, I can't seem to get over the panic feeling that there are Americans out there who believe this garbage.
I am amazed that Mr. Colmes stuck it out this long.
What would make an obviously normal guy who could get a legitimate job in journalism go to work for Fox? I mean you can see why the people on Fox are there because, well who else would hire them?

Yeah, and I was thinking of asking Bob Vila to come clean my windows.

The only circumstance in which Jon Stewart might share a camera with a guy like Hannity is to show Hannity's demographic what happens when puerile anger meets critical thinking delivered with elegant wit. Stewart has more than good writing going for him. He's "quick on his feet," which is on display all the more when interviewing people like William Kristol, Rudy Giuliani, and John McCain, whom he doesn't need to try to embarrass while debunking their spin.

Here's a thought, Sean. Get a pair. Screw up some of that TV courage, and ask Jon Stewart — or James Carville, or Paul Begala, or Joy Behar, or any one of a dozen other bright, confident candidates — to appear not as guests, but as guest-hosts for a week at a time, without limiting their time or closing their mics.

Then we'll see how "smart and funny" actually works out for you.

Will he be missed?
in a sense, yes, but not by the demographic that would be expected to miss him. See, i had no idea there was a liberal on the fox news network. I watch Fox for the odd masochistic humor that comes from being a political science nerd and a liberal. Yet despite watching Hannity and Colmes several dozen times, i had no idea he was a liberal. More accurately, he could be described as a punching-bag for conservatives. For this reason, i am most certain that he will be missed dearly… by hard-line republicans- only.

Does it really matter if the only liberal leaves a Fox Network if you don't watch Fox News? Fox News isn't the REAL news and their anchors or hacks. If they really had an intelligent thought they would jump out of their boxed mentality.

He seemed like a sweet guy but it's no revelation to say that his job on the show was to lose to Hannity.

I see no reason to miss him although it will be strange to not have "Hannity and Colmes" in the world.

Sorry Daryl. As great as you and John are, you shouldn't rip a good, decent person like Sean Hannity just because you disagree with his politics. I think Alan is a decent person too, but you haven't heard anyone rip him up.

Colmes' presence gave Hannity more credibility than he would otherwise have had. I don't think he was a liberal, he just played one on TV. There's no way I'll miss him.
